A boyfriend of several months, whom I had known for 2+ years before we dated, once joked that he could easily overpower and hurt me. No thanks.

I have seen this more with women that they would say that they want an LTR but don't put efforts or being comfortable just dating. My single, never married friends in their early 40s are still looking and just continue to date, date and date..... Some of them are very lonely and become aggressive if something is not going well. That is biggest red flag for me if either girl or guy gets aggressive and can't handle their emotions.

For me, red flags include:

Some who tells a lie. As another poster stated if they're gonna lie about the smaller things what else are they gonna lie about? If I catch somebody in a lie, that's it.

Drinking too much, not just a one off, but a habit. Though the first time you drink too much in front of me, I will look for it. So maybe even a one off, now that I think about it.

Someone who over promises and under delivers. If I say I'm going to do something I will do it and I expect my partner to be the same. If you cannot do it or do not want to do it, tell me that upfront. Don't say you will do it and then just conveniently forget or expect me to forget that you said you were going to do it. Just be upfront and honest.

Someone who does not like dogs or cats. Because I grew up with dogs and cats, and I cannot envision never having another one in my life when my current baby passes away
