I lived in several dictatorships. Here’s the thing. For most people, life continues normally. They go to school, work, and back home again. Some things may even improve, notably everyday crime. If you don’t oppose the regime, you’re probably going to be okay. You have to learn to be careful what you say and to whom, and there is an underlying sense of foreboding, but for most people it’s business as usual. Until there is a tipping point, and then people start to push back. That tipping point is different for every country. I’m not sure what it will be for this one.

I’ve lived in an authoritarian country.
When the regime isn’t under threat it is actually ok. At least if you are a mainstream person. If you are not, you need to keep your head down and generally fly under the radar.
If you are poor and/or old you are SOL. Same with SN.
But if you are mainstream and functional your life won’t change much. Maybe you’ll even be better off due to privilege.

I work in a place where everyone is conservative (wrong word(?). Trumpy. Better word.

I’m moderate, and I’m probably too far left for them.

Anyway, I’m friends with them online, and both online and in person, they’re starting to be very dissatisfied with the president. Very shaken by the Epstein files.
