Yes, there’s the sad matter of grandchildren not seen growing up, but as those children mature, they will come to resent their parents for keeping them from them and denying them such a crucial piece of childhood. They will not forget this.
But on balance, this is a net positive for regular normies everywhere, as they are freed from the burden of dealing with the angry scold liberals they have the misfortune of being related to.
You’re all doing the right thing. Cut them off.
Have you ever been to a Pride event? Drag brunch? Women’s march? Experienced what it feels like to not hate your immigrant neighbors? Been part of a peaceful chalk the walk protest? Do you know how freeing it is to not just blindly buy into archaic beliefs about religion, marriage, and economics? To feel passionate about social injustices and helping others?
I grew up in a red state thinking I was conservative for years and I know first hand that living life paranoid that immigrants, trans people, etc. are out to take things from you is an exhausting way to live. And surrounding yourself with angry conservative men who base their ideas of masculinity on ridiculous charicatures and quote idiots like Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, Charlie Kirk, etc. is draining. Also there is a reason Grindr blows up at Republican conventions. So many of these men are repressed and angry.
I’ve become increasingly liberal over the past decade and it’s so much more fun caring about others and not just buying into the garbage that churches and billionaires shill to control the masses.
This. It’s easy to hate and blame others for one’s life not turning out the way they had hoped it would. The MAGA men I know made poor life choices and or never stood up to the people who actually harmed them— lousy fathers and bad bosses who were abusive.
If only MAGA would consider those who are actually causing damage, for example, industries excited to deregulate so they no longer have to put much effort into protecting their workers.
You come here and say this a lot- it's more of a reflection of your social circle than reality. The Democratic party has a substantial advantage among low income voters and while it gets complicated once you move up the socioeconomic classes, it remains true that people become more conservative with wealth-- this even if complicated by the fact that wealthy enclaves are blue. My personal journey began as a poor Democrat. I became conservative somewhere around 700k per year. I've now reached the level of wealth that I listen to country music and wear camo hats. Once we hit 5M annually, I'll be throwing parties for ICE agents and wearing MAGA hats to restaurants.

Most people who don’t care about politics are those who aren’t oppressed by political policies.
Caring about politics should not mean allowing it to consume your life and relationships.
I agree. But when the politics result in policies that threaten the safety and welfare of a family member (e.g., LGBTQ or immigrant), I could see not wanting to subject them to that.
I feel that way (and so do many others) about liberal attys, judges, and policies that allow criminals to be arrested and released numerous times until they assault, rape, and/or murder an innocent victim.
Ok. So, given the topic of this thread….are you saying you have family members who are liberal attorneys judges and you don’t like to be with them?

You just have crappy values. We fall
into the 32% bracket - most of our income is earned through paychecks, so we pay A LOT in taxes.
We’d love to pay less in taxes, but we’re not greedy sociopaths who blame poor people and immigrants for our tax burden. We blame the ultra wealthy who built a thousands loopholes for themselves and put the heaviest burden on those who work for their money. So while they can afford to remodel their yacht with redwood paneling and gold toilets, we’re putting off home repairs and normal vacations.

Imagine feeling morally superior because you go to drag brunch. I suddenly feel like we might have been a bit harsh with all those men who used to eat lunch at strip clubs. Fast forward 20 years, going to gay or trans exhibitions are a virtue symbol.
Uh, drag brunches aren't about exploitation, unlike strip clubs. You've wildly missed the mark.

We are living in a timeline that requires our eyes to be wide open and fight for our constitutional rights-democracy. I have cut out MAGA friends and family because they are in a cult. A destructive hate filled cult and no one has time for that in their lives.
+1
People who truly love their families and have had healthy, positive relationships with them do not totally cut off family members over politics. Maybe you grew up in a dysfunctional family but are blaming politicians for your dysfunction. For example, having a yearly visit with grandparents and staying at a motel will not damage children.
Being dysfunctional is a pre-requisite for being MAGA. It’s a cult of personality disordered people.
70 million voters are not personality disordered. Do you always make broad assumptions?
Oh yes they do. Look at you.
Not a chance. I'm a public school educator and voted for Harris. Just sick and tired of ignorant assumptions about large groups of people.
Why do you lump all Trump voters in with MAGA? Some people just stupidly voted for Trump and have regrets. But MAGA is a cult. And yes, they have major personality disorders. Being MAGA is a giant red flag for narcissism, domestic violence, and pedophilia.
I voted for Trump because he was a better option than Harris. I’m not a MAGA. I just (correctly, I might add) understood that he would be a better president, mostly owing to my being an actual, functioning adult during his first term, and being for the most part pleased with his performance. Harris seemed like she would just be a continuation of whoever was making the decisions for Biden, and I think we can all agree it was less than stellar, especially in light of the entire country being lied to about the severity of his decline. I voted for Trump because it was the correct choice, of the choices available to me.
