Honestly this doesn't affect my family that much either, besides a possible split articulation that is disappointing but I would be happy to live with if it was part of a fairer option that affected all schools relatively equally or benefited the worse-off schools the most. But I am still pissed off at how these options hurt Kennedy, Wheaton, and Einstein and willing to throw down in solidarity with the families from those schools.

Oh, I am enjoying this exchange but not for the reasons you think. I just like exposing hypocrites, especially the ones who have railed against W schools for years. The ugly truth is you’re not different than any of us even though you pretend your decisions are somehow better.

Yes we “chose” to live in the dcc because it was the only area in which we could afford a house. I personally am not claiming it as a badge of honor but an economic reality. We had to make decisions about what we would save for college, what we could spend on child care, what we could afford for a mortgage, how long we could both spend commuting given trade offs of work and family time, etc. This isn't a choice to avoid schools with more advanced classes and opportunities but rather an economic necessity for a family with limited resources. That is my reality. I can still deeply care about the quality of my children’s education while acknowledging a need to be responsible financially.

You don't seem to be paying attention. There is no "DCC option of choice" because all the options pit DCC families against eachother while leaving the other schools either neutral or better off. We are trying to organize amongst ourselves to push back on that whole setup and make it clear that we need an amended version of one of these options or a new option entirely.

This new option will probably have minor negative implications on some of your schools-- maybe an extra split articulation or two, a slight shift in FARMS rate, some of your kids maybe having to go to Einstein (gasp! The horror!). But it would be better and fairer for the county as a whole. If you're selfish enough that you want to go all in on getting the perfect map for your particular kids and not care who else it affects, then you do you, but is that really the kind of person you want to be?

I have been following those discussions as well. I’m happy that the DCC PTA are mobilizing around them. To me the magnet issues seem to only impact a select few (who can get into magnets/regional programs/whatever we are calling them now) and I therefore am not as moved by the issue (even for my own family).

That's because you don't know how the DCC works. You can go read about it if you want. MCPS has a ton of information about it and it has also been explained on this thread that the DCC isn't just small magnets for the "select few". You either don't care to learn or are intentionally pushing a narrative you know is false.

It is reasonable for non-DCC parents to care about what the DCC parents might propose if that has an impact on the non-DCC. This thread early in had some significant negative comments from DCC parents regarding BCC and Whitman. Ergo one would expect DCC parents to propose changes that would negatively impact non-DCC.
