I’ve seen enough of Miyares and I want him out. His skeletons may still be firmly in his closet, but let’s not pretend he is a good and principled man. I’m sure if we look hard enough we will find similarly disturbing statements. The difference is the Republicans don’t care and are going to keep those secrets, while Democrats can’t stop shooting them sleeves in the face to pretend they are somehow better by maintaining the moral ground even when it costs them everything they proclaim to care about.

The truth is Jones is right. The GOP have zero empathy until something horrible happens to them. It’s a well known fact at this point. But there’s a distinction between threatening to kill someone’s kid and acknowledging that person is never going to lift a finger to save all kids unless something happens to their own. Jones wasn’t threatening to kill anyone’s kids. Just acknowledging that the reality that the GOP are empathy-free trash in graphic terms.

Louise Lucas and Mamie Locke have reaffirmed their support for Jay Jones - after the horrible text message came to light.

There are always decisions to be made about how voters feel about a candidate's character as well as their positions.

A lot of us lean Democratic and were prepared to support Jones for his positions, but the recent revelations demonstrate a real lack of character and basic decency.

The fact that Lucas and Locke - who have always stood for soaking NoVa to benefit other parts of the state - add fuel to the fire.

If I weren't prepared to support Spanberger, I would have more reservations about voting for Miyares at this point, but with Spanberger still likely assured of victory it's easier to accept the unfortunate reality that Jones has no business serving as AG. I don't like a lot of Miyares' political positions, but he's not as reckless and obviously unsuited for public office as Jones has been revealed to be.

If this is your position than you need to accept it’s going to be another four years of rolling over to Trump while Miyares harasses liberal organizations, colleges, and school districts with sham investigations that go nowhere. Don’t pretend. The AG decides what Virginia fights, and so far to date, the states that fight Trump win. Miyares is on the side of Trump and won’t defend Virginia.

So what happens if Jones is elected and resigns? Or can he be removed by the Virginia Senate?

I can't vote for Miyares, but Joes should also not be in office, that's clear. But I'd elect him if there's a viable path to a special election or governor appointment or something.
