Are you under the impression that the 18 year olds taking this oath are somehow constitutional scholars? They are not tasked with understanding the constitution or weighing the legality of the orders of their superiors. They follow this oath by following orders. The legality of those orders, if under question, will get determined in a courtroom, not by a teenager in uniform.

Please stop expecting the troops to magically start resisting for us. They will not. Not anymore than our congresspeople are going to fight for us, not anymore than our courts are going to fight for us. Institutions are not going to save us. Everyone is standing around waiting for someone else to step in.


No. You misinterpret why I posted it. They follow orders--whether they like them or not. Now, for an officer, if the order is illegal, he does not have to follow it. He should resign.

FWIW, sending troops to Portland is not illegal. Federal law enforcement is being attacked. Like it or not, it is not illegal.

Your friend and his family are entirely correct to keep quiet. The MO is: you follow orders and don't opine about stuff that isn't directly in your job description... until you get an order you cannot follow. This is what a lot of lawyers at DOJ did. They did their best until the worse was asked of them, and then they quit. I have friends at State. Mum's the word until you quit. Spouses, teens, etc know to also be careful about what they say and what they post on social media. I also know a few diplomats in DC - same thing, they don't want their country to become a target of retribution. This administration has done it before, over chance remarks. Sometimes it's hard to rein in the teens.

Internally... a lot of people are fighting the good fight. But you will never hear about it unless there's a huge to-do that spills out into the open.

Or maybe Trump was behind this all along and is only using Hegseth's "Warrior Ethos" speech as a front to cover the real purpose--a mass purging of anyone left in the upper ranks who is not personally loyal to Trump.

They are going to follow the law. Unfortunately, the voters and our representatives allowed Trump to embed himself within the law. The military will follow Trump, make no mistake about it.
