You seem to want attention.

Here are things I use the microwave for that would be annoying or impossible to do without:

Heat a cookie or brownie for dessert so I can have with ice cream.

Defrost certain things from the freezer before cooking them on the stove top or in the oven, to speed it up (I make burritos and freeze them often, and they would take forever in the oven alone because they are dense -- a few minutes in the microwave softens them through to the middle and then I can finish in the oven).

To reheat my tea when I make it, forget about it, and then still want to drink it. I do this at least twice a week.

To melt butter for baking. Yes I can do this on the stove but it's much faster in the microwave with identical results.

It's like a clothes dryer. I have ways to dry clothes without our dryer and often I do that anyway because the heat of the dryer isn't ideal for a lot of things. But when I need a piece of clothing dried quickly for some reason, the dryer is a very useful convenience appliance.

How I feel about air fryers. We were the last humans on earth to get one.

Once we finally did and after less than a year with minimal use -- it starting smoking. While the company replaced it under warranty... It's still in the box -- unused.

Ehhh. Plus they're big bulky and loud.

They are handy for roasting vegetables. Takes about 10 minutes. It takes 10 minutes for the full size oven just to preheat.

1) DH heats his turkey and cheese lunch sandwich to soften cheese
2) maybe I melt cheese or crackers for my lunch
3) steam dinner vegetables in glass casserole w a little water
4) sometimes heat takeout prepared food from Balduccis DH loves their mashed potato
5) Rarely baked potato because DH doesn't like texture. So we seldom have because it takes too long in oven.

For 5), you can do half and half. Use the microwave to get the potato hot and finish in the oven. The microwave never crisps the skin.

You can definitely heat things very well in a microwave, but it usually requires at least as much care (figuring out the proper time and setting) as it does figuring out how to do it on the stovetop or oven.

Popcorn isn't actually very hard to make on a stovetop (in fact it's super easy and takes like 30 seconds longer than doing it in a microwave)...

We used to have a microwave, we just almost never used it.

What do you think about yours?

I have never owned a microwave. I think they are for poor people.

defined as those who do not have a live in chef?

We didn’t use a microwave growing up and my mom still got cancer.

Yeah OP was really hoping to get a lot of attention for their totally mundane kitchen appliance choices and wow did they get what they wanted.

I have a microwave but don't care if other people have one or not. It's useful but not essential. Ours came with our house and is one of those microwave/vent hood situations and I hate that because the microwave gets so dirty being right over the stove and it's much more annoying to clean than a regular vent hood would be, while also being less efficient. I will never select this set up on purpose if we ever renovate this or another kitchen.
