That’s one way … then to be repeated again in 7 hours.

28 min isn’t long. I wish my kid’s commute was this short.

Congress is still out of session. Some Charters aren't back. People without kids are still on vacation. Get back to me in mid-September.

Add private schools on list above too.

Your high schooler can public transit. Brutal commute from Hillcrest to Stokes BL. Can you transfer them to Stokes EE

OP here… I’m not switching houses. The stokes EE waitlist is actually quite small to none so I could try. The thing is I don’t hear anything about stokes EE at all. I am waitlisted for several other schools but honestly just didn’t plan the lottery out as well as I could have as someone moving into dc.

Stokes EE is NOTHING like the other Stokes. Subpar education according to several friends (three) who bailed.

As for MacArthur it is a Title One school yes, but what does that have to do with anything? It has great admin and teachers and is a good high school, smaller than JR so def something to consider.

30 min is pretty doable but its 2 hours roundtrip each day. OP’s issue was not just MacArthur (for a teen who can at least sometimes take public transit) but MacArthur (far NW) + Brookland (far NE) when living in far SE.

Again - OP’s plan was to drive the daughter then back home with a stop to drop the younger daughter off. That is over 2 hrs commuting for OP and 1-1.5 hrs for kids. Would be different if the older kid could just take a 30 min bus on her own.

Today is not representative. A more accurate picture is mid September.
