We don't typically seed B meets. I think the main reason is because it makes clerk of course easier when you just throw 6 kids in the same age group together. People also tend to flake out more and not show up to B meets and not seeding allows all lanes to be filled. Kids also like to swim with their friends at B meets especially if its against a team we don't swim against on Saturdays.
All of this!
Agreed a lot of of no shows and time is of the essence at B meets . It’s just annoying when your kid is .20 from making a mixed aged relay , and the powers to be will utilize the “ randomness “ to their advantage. They will stack some heats and soften others .
One option to push a kid would be to have them swim up at a B meet. Still it’s tough to get best time to make a relay on a Monday night.
I think that was kind of their point. Team rep kid is put in a lane swimming up (or a girl with the boys) while their kid is in a slow heat.
why does everyone think there are so many conspiracies happening in summer swim? At our pool kids are just thrown in by whomever shows up in clerk of course at the same time. This is typically with their friends. The volunteers aren't picking out "special" kids to give an advantage or disadvantage.

They gossip about other children and adults, take over all key volunteer positions to have influence and be brown nosers and control, lobby for their kids and friends kids to be coaches, and have no life of their own. They are fake, mean, and pathetic and I’ve never seen more of them than at summer swim. God help us. I wish my kids weren’t interested. Try to find the nice parents who aren’t t fake and have a life.
This aspect is definitely annoying, especially when your child is good but not part of the “clique.” It really irritates me that the cliques have oversight over how heats and lanes are organized for Time Trials and B meets. “Team representatives agree on the seeding method (e.g., by time, friend groups, random) and communicate it to the Clerk of Course.” I believe NVSL should have more clearly defined rules regarding this procedure. I’m all for having a time-efficient B meet or Time Trials, but when your child’s time is fastest in their age group and, for some reason, the powers that be place the slower kids in the faster lane, it’s frustrating. the powers to be put the slower kids in the faster lane..
I don't disagree, but Time Trials and B Meets are not considered NVSL meets and are not subject to league policies. B Meet League rules and individual team handbooks should follow traditional lane seeding. Sometimes heats are collapsed for efficiency, but if a faster kid is seeded into an outside lane with a slower kid in the middle, I'd inquire.

We seed every B meet, often running races 13 and up, mixing genders, etc. Our meets are speedy, efficient, and organized. No cards, heat sheets, same officials as are available for A meets, and so forth. It is AWESOME!
Our league is the best! Even with some huge teams, we get done in 2-2.5 hours max, and always before the sun goes down (although, honestly, I don’t mind the cooler air once the sun starts to dip).
Yes. Several other pools have started emulating this (including ours). Seeding makes the b meet move faster, it makes coc job much easier, it gets kids better times. It’s also better for slower swimmers.

But do you seed all ages/genders? Just one long list fast to slow?
Wut. Of course it’s seeded by age and gender.

A very large B Meet league within NVSL teams seeds B Meets, and the meets run (largely) seamlessly. But some of the B Meet leagues within NVSL are not organized. It’s a mix.

Seriously? That is crazy.
I am a team rep and our coaches pick swimmers for Saturday meets and relay carnival. This includes sometime putting my kids in the spots where they can score point even if it's not a stroke they want to swim. I just tell the coaches who is and isn't available to swim at given meet.
Can we join your pool? 😉 This stuff happens all the time at our pool. Reps are constantly changing coaches picks to favor their kids & their friends.
