You can't be serious. Why would a teacher risk their safety for some nonsense. And what did you expect the studrnt body to do? You want more kids stabbed. I tell my kids anytime there is an altercation, be it verbal or physical there is a high likelihood someone has a weapon. Do NOT get involved. I also live by this. I think the teacher did the right thing.
At the time the teacher walked by there was no stabbing going on. Have you even watched the video? I expect a teacher to say "hey, knock it off" and to tell the other students to stop congregating and disperse or at minimum immediately contact an SRO. There is no time of the essence in anyone. So is it Fairfax policy to just snap a photo and casually keep walking?
When your child is in FCPS building the school system is responsible for them. A teacher or administrator is a part of that. I don't expect anyone to jump into a knife fight so GTFOH with that angle. I do expect the adults to be adults. This lord of the flies attitude is insane.
Yes, the kids would have immediately stopped fighting if only an adult said that. Well done!

You all should watch Adolescence on Netflix and check out the portrayal of a small town UK school.
You posted this already. I have watched Adolescence and it doesn't have anything to do with this.
From what I heard from my kids, the fight was over a hat. The kid that got stabbed started the fight by taking the hat from the kid who became the stabber. So they started fighting. A third kid (apparently the friend of the stabber) also got involved. The video also shows the three of them fighting in front of a large office window in addition to the teacher who walks by. So several adults were well aware of this fight and kids just standing around filming, laughing, etc. Eventually after a few minutes an SRO arrived and broke up the fight.
Then after that the kid whose hat was taken comes back to the instigator with a knife and starts stabbing him. Kid falls on his back on the floor and is bleeding everywhere. An adult arrives, stands over the bleeding kid yelling "ambulance" without it being clear who he's directing this instruction. No one actually approaches this kid on the floor to try to stop the bleeding whatsoever, which to me is inexcusable. The fight is over, a child is on the ground with stab wounds. I also saw the video of the stabbing in Bradlee a few years ago, the police officer who was actually there immediately tried to help the victim and render first aid. But in FCPS (and according to several posters on this thread), it is perfectly find to not GAF and not get involved with a stabbed kid.
A victim does not need to be likable to be a victim. He is 16. WTAH is wrong with all of you.
What kind of first aid training do teachers have? It's not clear what you would do with multiple stab wounds and a lack of any sort of hemostatic gauze.
I’ll take this! Former health department staff and Stop the Bleed was being rolled out to clinic, security and admin staff. I left before being certified but it’s a mass casualty event aftermath protocol. Supplies were to be sent to all FCPS.
That doesn't seem to include teachers. Where are the supplies located? In the nurses office under lock and key, no doubt.
STOP THE BLEED is a training program created to train bystanders in life-saving techniques. With the rise of mass shootings and active shooter situations, it is vital that individuals are trained in the basics of life-saving techniques, such as how to properly use a tourniquet, use a hemostatic agent, or even apply a chest seal.

So you want to make this mandatory for teachers?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:The teacher apparently was a sub and thought he needed a photo to show security. Also he’s claimed he was instructed to not intervene in any fights by FCPS and he took this to mean not only physical (do not try to break up) but also not to say anything. I’m just reporting what other parents have said.
My child says the kid was stabbed all over, including the back of the neck and his liver so he was bleeding everywhere and many other kids got sprayed with blood. The assailant was also flinging the knife around so it’s lucky no one else got stabbed. And it was another student (a tall white boy) who intervened and got the kid to stop. It was not an SRO. So I guess people got what they wanted with no intervening by adults, now we have kids doing the adult things.
The tall white guy who intervened was a teacher & basketball coach.

Right but that “teacher” could have called for help (maybe he did) while assuming crowd control (there was a huge group of kids standing in a hallway). I’m a smaller, short female but I could stand there and shout in a loud teacher/Mom voice to stop and yell for security. I have and would take over a scene, even if it’s to barge into the nearest classroom and call for help.
As I understand it, the fight stopped, so he didn't need to intervene, although he could have gone to help the kid on the ground, which might have prevented the later stabbing. Although the stabbing was unforeseeable. Hindsight may be 20/20, but foresight is not.

If the kids were not in two completely separate rooms the fight was not stopped.
From the video, it did not look like the fight stopped.
