Oops, forgot to mention also invited to Honors College

SAT? ACT?

TO

well that is irritating because my kid is in state and had a 1560 SAT, 4.7 WGPA / 3.8 W and got spring admit which is fine except it means she could not be considered for the LEP she wants

What lep is that? Generally a spring admit doesn’t keep folks from lep admission.

8 APs no scores submitted for those

Rejected

Do a lot of "W" kids go to UMD or do they use it as a "safety?"

Maybe UMD are utilizing historical yield rates from the W svhools. Maybe it's a MoCo thing.

UMD does not yield protect. It is a very simple formula. If you are in the top 3% of your hs class, you're in. 4/5%, is spring admit. Outside top 5%, most likely a reject

This is incredible.

It's also not true.

I attended a college consultant presentation a few weeks ago at our high school. That college consultant came out and said he saw a lot of W schools, high stat rejections last year because of yield protection, He said the same profile of kid from a school like Watkins Mill would easily get in.

Ha! Is this the kind of thing T is trying to stop?

Don't think geography falls into the sphere of MAGA injustices.

What stats for honors?

In state, 1550 SAT (800 math), 4.88/4.0
Will have an AA in mathematics this Spring when he graduates HS. 3 AP classes only because most classes have been DE.

Congrats!! From what county?

Is it a magnetic school or W school?

Unlikely.

About 1,000 students get Honors College invites, so a tad above 1.5% (?!)

But UMD also has Scholars and maybe others? Still, it's probably <5% of admits who are invited to a special program like Honors or Scholars.

It’s 1,000 people who attend that get honors and 1,000 people in Scholars.

My daughter was admitted and we didn't get an email..... we haven't gotten emails from any of the schools she has been admitted to this year.

Are you all getting emails like this from UMD or other schools?

Check your spam folder. I have twins, so I’m getting mail from a lot of schools.

Check your spam folder for emails regarding any merit, too. You have to accept the merit via the email, and we made it by one day (two years aog). Someone on this forum actually posted to check your spam folder.

Sometimes this forum has great info, sometimes.
