I’m afraid there are dozens of people who blame him for the decisions he had to make during an almost unprecedented global pandemic. No one, including Dr. Fauci, knew everything about the virus and how best to respond, particularly given that the virus was mutating. So the six-feet rule was based on earlier best practices when dealing with contagious diseases. Still, people revile him to this day and many want him dead. Given his willingness to serve (and risk making a wrong call in the face of shifting evidence) I think he deserves tax-payer funded protection.
I constantly see lunatics making threats against Fauci all over social media. To try and claim nobody cares and there's no threat is either completely ignorant (in case you need to STFU and go out and do some research) our straight-up dishonest gaslighting.
There is NO scenario whatsoever in which the claims of nobody caring about Fauci and him not having any threats against him are true.
You all need to stop repeating crap just because Trump said it. TRUMP IS A LIAR. This has been repeatedly proven. And repeating what Trump said only makes you either an ignoramus or a liar.
If there are indeed credible threats to his safety, did the Biden DOJ investigate them?

Fauci didn’t make those decisions. He’s a public health expert, not a policy maker.
Fauci openly admitted in a testimony that he came up with the six feet apart policy because it seemed like a good idea, not because it was scientifically grounded.
The policy makers and people on state levels and in other agencies did everything Fauci suggested, so to imply he didn't make the decisions is incredibly distorting and misleading. They were glued to his words. I remember exactly what happened during COVID. As do millions of Americans. Which is why Fauci is very unpopular with large swathes of the country. His pardoning for all activities dating to 2014 (the year the Obama administration banned gain of function research) is telling and I'm sure it's not the last we've heard of him given that he is no longer protected by the 5th and can still be prosecuted for perjury in future testimonies.
Trump pointed out that Fauci is a private citizen and former government employees do not keep security details for life. If Fauci is worried about his safety, he can hire his own security detail. And as Trump also pointed out, Fauci has made himself a wealthy man because of the epidemic thanks to his publications. He can afford it.

I don’t get it. How is this “petty?” He received government protection while doing his duty and for 2 years after retiring. That’s plenty. The level of threats he receives don’t rise to level of needing secret service indefinitely. It’s not like Russian double agents are out to
poison him. His threats are likely (if anything) limited to internet weirdos
None of us here are in a position to evaluate the level of credible threat to him nor the risk to national security it may pose, nor any of the other criteria used to determine whether someone is assigned government-funded security. (Perhaps there are some of those folks here, but they cannot say so, obviously.) I don't know if it's plenty. You don't know if it's plenty. Your basis for declaring that anyway is not the basis used for assigning security. I don't suspect the president is bothered about the reasons, in any case.

I think Fauci did the best he could with the information he had.
With that said, the pandemic absolutely did make him exceedingly wealthy. If you don’t believe that, inquire about hiring him for a speaking engagement and see what he charges.
Hard to tell because I only see extremely RW media when I searched it. But those sources say *up to* $50,000-$100,000, which is extremely vague. And I did not see any specifics. Compared to other people of his stature, it is not outlandish. Trump has speaking fees in the millions. Such as $2.5M to call a fight.

But for some reason, when Trump makes money it is admirable and good business. When anyone does, it is greed.
No way Fauci is speaking anywhere for less than 300k. But anyhow, the point is, while he was at risk while in his position, he received security so he could continue to do his job, made millions off the pandemic (which is fine, not faulting him, just the reality). He hasn’t been working in government in years and there is no real reason for the tax payers to be funding his security. There is nothing petty about not funding lifetime secret service to him. His job is done, he can pay for any security he feels he needs now
