They take kids w a 3.7 from our rigorous private. Only in early rounds. And seem to prefer full pay (often w a 10k merit scholarship to bring it down to 80k)

Uchicago is a tough admit and they’re looking for the brightest kids who can’t take the soul crushing work. It’s not a fun undergraduate experience if you aren’t in it for the grind. Reminiscent of MIT.

A lot of surprises. Pomona has the largest average iq of WASP? Uchicago is really high, it’s impressive!

If this format does not work for you do not consider Chicago, so many other great options are available.

Honestly, it seems pretty reasonable as uchicago is very very unique and offers things like Honors Analysis, it’s crazy good Econ program, and a very intense HUM program and a general student culture of hard work being fulfilling that really isn’t matched by other places.

At the same time they like private school kids from boarding school or top prep schools from NYC of DC or Harvard west lake in LA
I don’t see anything wrong with their approach
If this format does not work for you do not consider Chicago, so many other great options are available.

Eh. I think some of that perceived "hate" is more the result of people annoyed by all the spam mail and people annoyed by the admission percentages gaming. I am the latter. I think Chicago seems like a fantastic school. I don't like how they admit a staggering percentage ED but offer EA as bait to reduce their overall rate. Applicants really believe they have a shot at EA when they don't.

It’s also not like the critique is unprompted. Their admissions process is basically: wealthy private school kids or low income Questbridge students (they take a very high amount).

If anyone is gaming the system, it’s Uchicago with their sneaky admission practices. If they are more open about it, then nobody will complain.
