Good job, Free Britney! Yay!
She may have addiction issues and a mental illness but so do millions of Americans...they don't get put under conservatorships. She is lucky to have full-time security guards and a ton of money that will take her another decade to spend down even if she spends like a maniac.
She needs a conservatorship or longterm hospitalization.
Kanye west also reportedly has uncontrolled mental illness, behaves very erratically and spends like crazy. Why does the conversation around Britney go immediately to conservatorship? I’ve never heard mention of a conservatorship with respect to Kanye.
A lot of you seem unable to use common sense.
1. Kanye literally has no one to look after him. The single mom who raised him is dead, his old friends like Jay-Z have distanced themselves, and the Kardashian Koven has thrown him away now that they’re done using him. There’s no one to seek a conservatorship because no one cares for him.
2. Conservatorships are for people who need protection. Kanye is the serial victimizer in his situation, as most mentally ill men are. It stands to reason that Kanye is perceived as not needing a conservatorship because HE is the threat to others. Others aren’t a threat to him and there’s no evidence he’s a threat to himself, completely out of touch with reality (sorry, disliking his views doesn’t mean he no longer comprehends reality) or too strung out on drugs to function.
Similar to how MIA is mentally unstable and lost custody of her son, but no one talks conservatorship with her because there’s no evidence she’s being taken advantage of, as opposed to being aggressive and paranoid towards others. Like Kanye, there’s also no evidence that MIA is a danger to herself or too strung out on drugs to function.
Doesn't Britney have a record of being out of control and violent? She is not only a victim here.

This is deeply sad but entirely foreseeable. I wish I could call out all the posters who attacked me in the long threads on Britney’s conservatorship when I spoke from my years of experience in court and argued that most of what Jamie was doing was sincerely for the best interests of his daughter.
Does anyone really think her lawyer who has milked her for $4 million so she could pay $2 million more to Jamie’s lawyers has her best interests at heart?
Britney’s fall is going to be epic.
Does anyone really think she would be worse off right now if she was rehearsing regularly for a residency in Vegas while taking meds daily and seeing therapists weekly?
The only conditions of her conservatorship that anyone could seriously challenge as untoward was the requirement to use effective birth control. Yet I don’t think anyone could responsibly argue that she should have had more children in this lifetime.
Good thing her sons are nearly grown, sounds like she’ll be too poor for child support soon enough.
Her father was taking advantage of the conservatorship. If she wants to waste her money and do drugs all day then let her.
How did he take advantage? He was paid 100k a year to be the conservator which is an actual job.
Jamie hates California. He’s always in Louisiana
I thought he also got a cut of every tour deal. Huge conflict of interest.
Jamie Lynn was using the money as well. Super inappropriate. I rather she blow the money then have her family steal from her
I don’t think it’s the money. The entire family lives in Louisiana still. They don’t care about the money as much as they care about their daughter. They don’t want her to die or go to jail.
Anyone who has ever dealt with a severely mentally ill friend or family member during a manic phase understands the fear of waking up to a phone call that your loved one died, killed someone, killed themselves, was arrested, or is comatose from a bad drug overdose. All of these things are likely to happen to Britney. Britney’s family did s great thing stepping in. Whitney Houston’s family tried to pray for her to stop and conquer her battles and were too scared to tell her she shouldn’t have custody of Bobbi Kristina and look what happened . Both mother and daughter died from drugs .
Sometimes family needs to be a bad guy to get someone that’s out of control and manic like Britney in line . Jamie didn’t mind playing that role as he was always villainized by Britney anyway
If Britney’s family really cared for her, why did they encourage and force her to keep performing rather than actually rest and heal? Why did they take her money to fund their stupid ideas (Jamie’s tour bus food truck anyone?) and pay off their exes? Take as a counter example Amanda Bynes’ conservatorship where her mom pulled her out of the public eye entirely and when she experimented with living independently and had problems as a result she had enough trust in the medical profession to call and get help again. Britney might have benefited from a conservatorship in the abstract but she definitely didn’t benefit from the one she got.
+1
It's possible to believe all these things, and I do:
-The conservatorship was needed at the time.
-Britney's rights were not protected when the conservatorship was established. She didn't receive the proper notice before it was implemented and she didn't have the right to obtain her own counsel. Even criminals receive these basic elements of due process.
-Some things about the conservatorship were good, like making her take her medication.
-Her father also wildly abused the conservatorship powers and abused Britney herself.
-The conservatorship, as it existed, needed to end.
-She's currently acting in a very trashy, trainwrecky way that is sad to see.
-But doesn't currently meet the legal standard for a conservatorship. Her trashy behavior is not that different from many other celebrities.
It all could have been different if the conservator had actually put the conservatee first and focused everything on her mental and physical help and helping her become independent and live a good life.

So many of her friends and boyfriends stole her money and she blew money on hotels, vacations, shopping, partying, drugs.
She had a cancelled tour from a broken leg in 2004 during the KFed days that cost millions as well. Her records weren’t selling as much as they used to during the late 90s/early 00s. Without record sales, artists can only make real money by going on tour.
That’s what she did. It’s better than keeping her locked in a gilded cage and feeling isolated at home. She was able to interact with people, exercise, be sober, and tire herself on stage and sleep at a reasonable hour. It’s better than what she’s doing now
You talk about her as if she were a dog.
Sure, it would be nice, if once medicated, her team spoke to her, like a human being, and created a plan for a tour that she wanted to do (given that she once loved to perform, she may not have been opposed to this), on terms that didn't physically exhaust her, with lots of breaks for her and lots of input from her. That's not what seems to have occurred.

What? Have literally never heard this.

This sounds like pure projection. Anyone who’s had read anything about her childhood will tell you he’s not a nice or good person.

Kanye rakes in a lot more money than Britney and probably has more competent financial management.
So the ultimate criteria for conservatorship is your ability to manage your own finances competently? If so, 1/3 of Americans should be under conservatorships
