It is possible to believe that (a) we need immigration because we have a worker shortage and (b) we need an immigration policy that is much more rational than what we currently have.
I also believe that the major impediment to rational immigration reform is not the Democrats but rather the Republicans, who have decided that winning elections by politicizing the issue is vastly preferable to doing the hard work of compromise and negotiation necessary to fix it. Complaining about immigration is a winning issue for Republicans. It is not a winning issue for Democrats. George W. Bush wanted immigration reform to be a legislative achievement of his administration and he was thwarted by his own party. Ever since Newt Gingrich, the Republicans in Congress have played zero sum politics instead of actually reaching across the aisle and actually achieving political compromise. Yes, the Dems have their crazies but the Republican party is fundamentally broken.

She had to be sponsored by a family already here. She had to have money in her pocket. She had to have medical checks. That's all BEFORE she came here.

It's was CONTROLLED immigration.

And yes, illegal immigration is bad and its a problem, but the way to solve it is not with walls (Donald spent billions on part of a wall that did nothing) but rather with reform to prosecute the asylum cases and otherwise deal with the border issues in a 21st century manner. But xenophobia is never a good look, particularly from people who came from immigrants themselves.
First of all, the wall DID work. It absolutely did work. It in and of itself is not the only thing you need to control the border. So stop the lying one-liners.

Oh yes they do. If a pregnant woman shows up at a hospital to give birth, she is treated and she and the newborn U.S. citizen will be given housing and further benefits. If a person shows up at a hospital with an injury from a "shadows" workplace they are treated. If if they can claim disability from that injury, they will get a lawyer and will be able to get benefits.

No that’s how it used to be. Now they realize you can game the system. So many have kids born here so they are US citizens and get benefits for them. In some states they get free health care even if you are illegal.
And the current wave of immigrants are not illegal. The vast majority are applying for asylum so they don’t stay in the shadows because they don’t need to. They are clamoring fir resources and help. Look at New York City and Chicago.
Biden repealed Trumps public charge rules that he was enforcing. You aren’t supposed to be able to immigrate if you are going to be a public charge and cost the US money. The sponsor is supposed to pay.
Enacted in 2019, Trump’s public charge rule imposed stricter financial requirements on would-be immigrants to the U.S. The rule directed federal immigration authorities to decline green cards and visas to applicants who were likely to become reliant on public aid — and expanded the universe of immigrants who fell into that category.
The US is one of the very few countries that allows a citizen’s elderly poor parents to immigrate because it will end up costing the US so much money. Instead parents get priority over siblings who could add to the economy.
