This is such a ridiculous position that it's hard to even pretend to take seriously, but surely even if you think Tchaikovsky should be off-limits because of a war that started nearly 130 years after he died, the fact that the video is set to the Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn adaptation of the ballet should "cleanse" its toxic Russian-ness, no?

Statues of Americans who died more than 130 years ago are still being vandalized and torn down, without consequence and often with government approval.

I think the older generation likes it because it's very old Hollywood. Like something from a fifties musical. The youngs may not get the references.

The Nutcracker has become an American production when performed by Americans in America. That's the thing about culture: it all comes from somewhere. This is a joyous interpretation of the story, although I admit I prefer the original score.
