What are we supposed to do?
My husband would’ve waited til dark, put on a gray hoodie and a mask, grabbed a baseball bat, and beaten the teeth out of that guy’s head and probably broken at least one of his hands. Along with a warning that if he was ever on that block again he’d be killed and put in a dumpster.
That’s my pyscho hubby and I LOVE him for it.
Begs the question where were the men in the area? No one saw this happening and intervened. Shame on any grown, able bodied man who was in the area at the time and didn’t engage this POS when he was beating women and sexually abusing kids. WTF?!!!!

He can’t help himself because he is mentally ill. You have no empathy? His neighbors didn’t press charges because they were good human beings who didn’t want to see another Black man locked up or possibly killed.
We need to discuss mental health support above all else or this problem will not get better.
When's the last time you heard of a mentally ill woman exposing her genitals to children?
I am so tired of people excusing criminal and lewd behavior as "mental illness."
There’s a crazy woman over my the Anacostia Metro that routinely urinates, defecates and pleasures herself in front of the windows at the Thurgood Marshall Academy charter school.
I’ve personally seen her doing it on at least two dozen occasions.
So yes, it happens. Frequently.

Here you go:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/hero-fund-for-petit-scholars-teachers
That’s not a GFM to pay for the specific teachers involved to pay medical bills. That is a GFM where the money goes directly to the director of PS who apparently will then split it evenly among all PS staff. It discloses that in the description.
My toddler goes to PS Bloomingdale and was present for the attack. Two teachers went to the hospital, but others were sexually assaulted by this individual as well. All of the teachers are understandably traumatized, and as a parent of one of these kids (he seems to be ok, thankfully) I can't express how grateful I am to these caregivers.
Also, for other commenters in this thread: Parker's office has been incredibly responsive and facilitated a ton of help for the parents. I think he would probably re-word his initial statement given the chance, but that was posted very soon after incident. He issued a follow-up statement later that clarified his office is working to ensure this guy is charged and not immediately released, which may very well have happened if he hadn't gotten involved and brought a lot of press attention.
Thank you for this info! I'm also in Zachary Parkers ward and I have to say I think he is really trying. Very glad that his efforts may help to ensure that Russell stays locked up somehow.

He has family living in the area and he refuses to live with them (presumably because they require him to be safe/not an addict/etc).
If that's truly the case, then he needs to be hospitalized or in some way confined with oversight and supervision and medical support for the rest of his life.
How about a one bedroom in the Saratoga?

But with those things he’s not safe to be on the street and we (the general public) aren’t safe with him being on the street. He also committed a crime, and it doesn’t matter if you’re out of your mind on drugs or alcohol or off your meds when you commit a crime - there are legal consequences including jail/prison time. After his sentence he should, IDEALLY, be committed for a period of time. But we don’t have the facilities for that … so he’ll probably serve 6 months or whatever for assault and then be back on the streets like nothing ever happened.
STOP leaving out the sex crimes. HE’S A SEX CRIMINAL AGAINST KIDS. This goes beyond him beating the two teachers. And you know it. You are sick.
I don’t understand the insulting of people who are on the same side as you, but ok. He needs consequences, I said as much. After the consequences he needs real help, mental health commitment + drug rehab. He probably won’t be able to live independently ever. Drug abuse changes your mental state permanently. So they need to have a plan for that or else he’s going to end up on the street offending again. Then we end up with the feel bad stories about “guy with severe untreated schizophrenia and a drug problem got arrested and thrown in jail for whatever, where he was mistreated by guards or other inmates and died as a result” and then we start the soft on crime nonsense which makes us all worse off.
Because you’re an incredible apologist and are glossing over the sex crime aspect. A repeated sex offender. For other people who are child sex abusers, ask yourself to you have empathy for them, do you say “they can’t help it”, etc., because this attitude is an insult to the millions is sex abuse victims. He needs intense sex offender therapy and possibly to never be on the streets.
The lead shouldn’t be he was on drugs, or that he has mental health issues, the lead is that he is well known, repeated child sex abuser (not just this week). Wake up. I want you to be safe, I want everyone to be safe.
