I don’t think Love is measured like that - it’s not a finite resource, we have the ability to love each of our children and pets without limit. Our hearts just expand accordingly.

Before I had children, I worried that I’d have a hard time loving them as much as I did my dog and cats or that having children would flip a switch that caused me to care less for the animals to make room for the kids. Happily, neither scenario played out when our children arrived - heart expanded appropriately.

In a trolley problem sort of scenario, I would kill MY dog to save YOUR kid (hell, any kid) 100% of the time. And I would do it happily, it's a freaking human life!

Me, too, except I wouldn't do it happily. I wouldn't consider it a choice, but I wouldn't be happy about it.
