Meh kids these days are self confident and the pendulum has swung back again toward showing femininity. It goes in waves - the late GenX/millennials always wore thongs and showed some cleavage. Then younger GenY/GenZ went the way of grunge. And now it's back to normal to wear makeup and go to any HS and you'll see all midriff. Better to roll with it than clutch pearls - we're all fine.

This. Sad pick-mes who believe that sexualizing them selves is empowering.

the people wearing the trndy suits dont see the butt cheek as a private part. the suit tops decottege (sp?) shows the vy top part of the boob/chest and no one cares

Right. Cleavage has been normal for like forever, so why is butt cheek the bridge too far?

Since when has society accepted women baring their buttocks in public, yet the trend for men remains square cut board shorts and boxer briefs. Men are wearing shorts whereas women are wearing what pales in comparison more along the lines of skimpy panties.

Don’t get me wrong, I dread the thought of my husband or son wearing a thong at the pool or beach. I’m no prude, I have a few racy cut swim suits that I wear in the islands with hubby but wouldn’t wear in Ocean City.

What’s behind this new fashion trend?

I think surfer culture in Hawaii and California is responsible for a lot of it. The "cheeky" cut is best for water athletics. Then a lot of celebs jumped on that train. It seems that now all teen girls and young women wear those bottoms.

I mean, come on... Is it really necessary to parade around in a thong or G-string when the majority of other patrons are dads, moms, and their kids??? I actually think its incredibly disrespectful!! A woman or teen girl's naked ass is hugely seductive and sexual, and doesn't belong at a family environment. Recently, we went to a resort in Cabo that has always been very family centered, and we could not believe the amount of young women and teen girls walking around, bending over, on all fours to get their lotion... wearing thongs. It felt like Disneyland did a collab with Big Al's Strip Club!!! It was just wrong and uncomfortable on so many levels. I wish more places would set a dress code. And even more disturbing was the amount of under age girls prancing around in thongs. What has our world come to????

+1. For me, this is very much a “time and place” issue. Dress for the occasion, so to speak. My cousin’s 20-something girlfriend showed up to a family reunion a few years ago practically wearing a thong. I’ve seen teenage girls at our pool in the summer wearing super cheeky bottoms surrounded by families. It’s just so inappropriate.

This is just another example of how social norm/expectation to dress appropriately for an occasion or place is completely lost.
