Naming it after GW would have (and still would) caused confusion with DCA. There is now at least one airport that incorporates the name of Abe Lincoln — and a few other with a city name of Lincoln.

I’m a firm believer in generally not naming something after someone until 50+ years after that person’s death.

Why not name it after: RFK, MLK, J. Edgar Hoover, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, Northern VA, Virginia, or Frederick Douglass

Actually the overthrow of Mohammad Mosaddegh worked out well for the US and Iran. Under Shah Reza Pahlavi's White Revolution, Iran was doing very well playing the Russians off the United States and educating women. It all went to pieces when the Shah pushed the mullahs too far and they left Qom to establish a theocracy. The mullahs were smart enough to stop educating Iranian women and now about 75% of the physicians in Iran are women and they work in many other professional fields. If there is ever a revolution in Iran, it will be a Pink Revolution led by women sick and tired of wearing chadors.
