I'm a vet and I'm opposed to this. The military is our defense organization-- it is burdened enough with that task, without also babysitting 18-21 year olds who are out of shape and lack motivation. Just no. And the reason our youth are like this is due to our culture, so start there if you want to fix that problem.

Every soldier once started out as an 18-21 year old who was out of shape and lacking motivation, needing babysitting and training.

But that said, go back and check what was actually posted, it wasn't about putting them all in the military, it also included things like having them serve in medical corps, teaching, and other roles as well. Many 18-21 year olds have health issues that would preclude them from going into the military, but would not exclude them from other types of things. And, not all kids want to join the military, but would be willing to do other things for their country. An expanded ASVAB type of process could help determine what kinds of things would be a good fit.

I would love for this to work, but I think we are too divided politically to even agree on the types of projects/service that would be acceptable.

The military is burdened with defense? We have oceans between our borders and any hostile nation and the most massive and best equipped military in the world.

I'm reminded of my stepdad, who served 21 years in the Army, he started out as a kid who was on a bad path and with few good opportunities, and ultimately it was either going to go to jail or go into the army and get straightened out. He ended up a Sergeant First Class, and at points in his military career, he was the guy straightening out the 18-21 year olds as, among other tours and assignments, he on several occasions served as a drill instructor (marksmanship training etc). And to this day he regularly gets letters, cards and phone calls from the guys (now grown men) who he helped straighten out. Your comment, on the other hand, is just a disappointment. I have a lot more respect for my stepdad than I do for you.

Agree. I think this younger generation watched older generations’ hard work and loyalty get repaid with layoffs and furloughs when times were tough but executive pay increase exponentially.

There are lots of liberals in the military. Our current president has two sons who served, since you’re looking for higher ups with kids who served- seems like you’d notice. But Fox doesn’t talk about that.

Liberals do join. Two of the top 3 states contributing the most soldiers to the military are blue states: California and New York. Also, before you try and say "yabut it's just the red parts of those states" a huge number of active duty military contributed to the Clinton and Biden campaigns.
