Yes. We have two adult recent cancer survivors (I’m less than 25 months in remission). Both kids have asthma. I’m also immunocompromised due to a chronic illness. We have HEPA filters in every room and change filters at least monthly.

Well then for your specific situation (an entire household of sensitive individuals, plus enhances air filtration) it probably makes sense to keep your kids home. But surely you must recognize that is not the case for most families.

My middle and Hs kids are doing work--end of the year projects now that finals aren't a thing anymore.

And in the elementary school I work in, teachers are interspersing the fun end of the year stuff with actual learning. And yes, many of these kids (title 1 school) are safer in school than at home. So I would have embraced a day off, but was glad it was open yesterday.

I don’t know what you are talking about. My middle schooler is finishing up some key projects and has end of year commitments he doesn’t want to miss. He really doesn’t want school to close and I’m sure he’s not the only one.

For some, having them in school is actually healthier. If there is no adult at home to keep them inside, they are better off at school. Parents who have the means and feel their child is safer at home should keep them home. Just because the school is open doesn’t mean you have to send them.
I hate that all the special activities are in jeopardy or canceled, that sucks. But I dont really think closing is an inherently safer decision.
