My daughter is at The Washington Market School in TriBeca and we couldn’t be happier. Super nuturing. Excellent teachers. Great facility. My kid is obsessed with going to school every day. Most of the parents who end up unhappy w the exmissions results seems to stem from this parents trying to fit a square peg into a round hole when it comes to where they have their heart set on child attending. That, and preschools aren’t a miracle worker for getting children into school.

They are very different parent communities. All Souls is more down to earth and diverse. Sends more kids to public school for k vs STMPG, so fewer to place for independent k. But very sibling/legacy heavy placement.

STMPG more the UES stereotype. Staffed up households. Uniforms. Lots of siblings and legacies, but very connected school leadership so “everyone” places well.

Sure, but mostly the external relations component - thinking of possible alumni to introduce you to if they happen to have them, making connections with those schools, attending their events for PSDs etc. all activities help lay a foundation. My PSD hadn’t spoken to most of the Admissions teams of the schools I was exploring while the bigger preschools have ongoing conversations.

We came from a small preschool as well and felt quite unsupported compared to other stories I’ve heard from parents at bigger preschools. It worked in the end but it was stressful and I also recommend speaking to the director early on about goals vs the spring before. They may be able to prep the ground for you better.

It's just useful for the preschool director to understand your goals early on.
