This is all impressive...but I honestly don't know anyone that had 5s on 11 APs as a Junior. Again...this is not 5s on 11 APs total...but she has to have already taken the tests by her junior year of HS. Most have like 7 or 8 by Jr year, and then end their entire HS career with 12-13.

I suppose the school could let her start taking APs in Freshman year. Perhaps this is common at a TJ or something.

DC got top score (5/7) in all his AP/IB, magnet, higher GPA, higher SAT and better EC, still got waitlist or rejected everywhere

Indeed. Our child had all 5s on 12 APs, higher GPA and SAT and more impressive ECs, and wasn’t accepted by any Ivies, MIT and Stanford. Accepted by another great T10 college though.

That narrows the list to Chicago, Duke, Northwestern, & JHU. Not bad. Congratulations ! (My money is on U Chicago ED 2.)

While 5s on APs are pretty much the norm at TJ, the impressive thing is that this girl did it at a school where I imagine the standard of competition and rigor of the courses aren't as high.

She must have put in a lot of work on her own.

I would strongly suggest Not passing up on Harvard.

A kid like her will do well ANYWHERE. But Harvard will get her a leg up in life, and they have supports in place for first gen students. She can always transfer to UVA if she does not like it. Congratulations to you and her. 12 years of anything is a commitment. Kudos to her.

I am the poster. The recent posts have been very encouraging. Yesterday was ecstatic but we are growing a bit more anxious.
Her father wants her to remain near the family. He would rather her go to UVA (1-hour drive from home )
She wants to be a pediatrician and my recent research suggests that UVA would better pre-med option. More and more we
are leaning toward UVA. It just feels like a more comfortable place for her and the family. Any thoughts?

You can always transfer to UVA.

Send her to the Ivy.

I don’t know Harvard’s numbers although I expect a quick Google search would pull up an article with that info. I think Yale’s wait list this year is something like 1100.

Please, reach out to Harvard’s first gen office and learn more about supports offered. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. Let her spread her wings and soar.
