tbh should feds even be able to buy a house? It's a government worker - there are plenty of apartments all over the place. People who are a manager at a retail store can't afford a SFH so why should a government worker?

I'm debating a jump from GS scale to a different scale (SK scale at the SEC) -- would the 5.2% federal pay increase apply there too? Might be a dumb question but the new pay scale is totally new to me.

The issue is there are so so many feds in this area...when one gets a raise the rest do as well...raises won't help us feds in regards to home affordability. Also all the military folks get raises every year as well. Lots of them around here as well.

They’re focused on reducing telework (not unreasonable) and eliminating coverage of employee abortions and transgender surgeries (lol).

Feds are not guaranteed promotions every year. Our step increases aren’t even every year (unless you’re a step 1-3 I think? Maybe those are every 2 years).
And we lag behind the private sector on salaries across the board.
Also, not every pay scale has step increases and those that do are only every year for a few years and then they’re every 2 years and THEN every 3 years. And then they stop completely unless you get promoted. Oh. And then at 15-10 they stop altogether for the rest of your career, if you ever even make it to that level.
But, you’re right. We should just never get raises. It’s unconscionable that we expect to make enough money to live off.
Do you really really want people working for the government who are willing to make nothing? Is that the caliber of employee you want protecting you?
People are so stupid it’s exhausting.
