I want to point out that the focus of VT is not just on admitting URM, it is URM and underserved students (First gen and low income). There are A LOT of first gen and low income white students, many of them males, in VA. Jus not NOVA.

So much of what is being posted is unbelievably offensive.
The world is changing, and it is particularly hard on some as previous unfair advantages are taken away.
I am the parent of an UMC white girl with fairly high stats. Every one of the white males with relatively high stats with whiny entirely parents on this thread would be admitted over her at the SLACs she has applied to. That is life. She will go somewhere good and get a great education.

I’ll be in this spot in a year.
Deferred with 4.0UW/4.5W/1570 and 13 APs or post-APs.
That is nuts. Where else did they apply?
Princeton, Harvard, Hopkins, Duke, UVA, bunch of others. VT was lowest ranked school. Already in at several higher ranked schools. If you are high stats and want VT, better go ED and show tons of interest.
In state? Engineering? Yield protection? But, UGH!
Yes, in state engineering. Feels like yield protection but no way to tell for sure.
Seems like no other explanation. But also don’t understand why VT would bother to engage in such a practice.

GPA and rigor?

The kid who is dedicated to engineering and/or CS and has VT as the top option in-state and who has worked hard for the past 12 years excelling in school and on standardized test but who gets shut out due to DEI (making the school 40% URM BS) or bc VT thinks it is their safety is who I am thinking of. These kids are the ones who will be hurt the most. VT is playing with social engineering with my tax dollars and I know plenty of people who refuse to even apply because of how they have handled admissions in the past few years.
40k + apps. Not a lock for anyone. Many kids with high stats and many qualified URMs. White male affirmative action is over.
What are you yammering about?
NP. please stop your comments. you are adding nothing to the forum
I would argue the nasty and offensive person prattling on about “DEI” adds nothing. To the forum or to the community. That person is a despicable piece of excrement.

I thought they did not defer in the early action round?
