That doesn't excuse her from doing something unforgivable. She will rightfully go to prison or an institution. If she doesn't, there will be no sympathy and a lot of outrage.

I am white, and I would like to see all women get more support. I think single Black mom's deserve more support than anyone

If anything " good" can come from this I hope it highlights the need for better postpartum care for all women

Other than in-patient care (which she could have refused) what more are you looking for? Clancy was already in a 5-day a week outpatient therapy program. That is more than most people suffering from mental health issues can access.

Look, I think she should get the death penalty. It's the only way anyone can move on.

It’s stories like this (and countless others) why I no longer believe there is a God. Or if there is some higher being, he not benevolent nor merciful. Same with family annihilators, abuse victims, etc.

You have no idea what mental struggles Clancy was facing. Your comment about “less-affluent” women having greater mental stress than Clancy suggests you think that affluent women can’t / don’t have legitimate mental illness. Mental illness doesn’t discriminate, but dismissible attitudes like yours may make it harder for a very sick affluent woman to be taken seriously.

They have the resources that less affluent (and less sympathetic) women don’t have. Yet, they get all the sympathy.

But a more important one would be - why is there a $600K GoFundMe needed by the DH anyway. What exactly is this rich, whit ripper middle class dad need this money for? Therapy - he has insurance; Burial costs - savings or credit and other wealthy family members

The situation is horrible. And I have to wonder why they decided on more children when clearly there were issues after the first two.

Too often in these cases the situation is portrayed as the person had a mental illness and then got over it. But generally speaking that’s not how it works. It’s not a single episode but a lifetime issue that needs to be addressed and like other diseases ebbs and flows as to the severity.

Doctors need to do a better job counseling women during pregnancy and after about the fact that mental health issues needed to be taken into account and just like having a birth plan there needs to be a mental health plan in place. For families where either parent has mental health issues those need to take precedence when providing care and if that means for example counseling a woman to forgo breastfeeding to provide a bottle so that she can get adequate rest/and or her spouse can or if it means encouraging the parents to get night time care, then so be it. A mentally stable parent usurps breastfeeding in terms of long term outcomes for a child.
