Time will tell
OP here. I want to hear more about what he’s doing right! I get it, the media loves to talk about his eschewing of Covid guidance, Martha vineyard stunts, and the theater of his “dont say gay” bill—but these are the “culture war” type things. I’m hoping to learn more about the positives ways he’s improved life for the people of his state.
OP, if you're serious, here are some pointers.
Which other Governor...
Focused on protecting the elderly from Day 1 (the opposite of Cuomo)
Kept schools safely open most of 2021-2022, improving the lives of thousands of kids and their parents.
Prevented the massive riots that took place in so many other states, protecting the lives of an untold number of minorities.
Treated adults like adults, so that for example they could open and visit, safely, shops and restaurants.
Want more?
Is this some kind of hideous joke?
He lied about Covid data and Florida has the highest rate of senior deaths. He had a dangerous surgeon general. Both made it entirely political.
I would never retire there with sky high housing costs. The restrictions on immigration make it tough to get things done around the house. My MIL has waited a year to get her driveway done. They can’t get yard workers. No thanks!

Also fired the woman creating the public data regarding COVID. Didn’t like the way she reported it . Changed it to make him look better.
No, that's not true. She was fired because she changed the website repeatedly when her superior told her not to. She then illegally accessed the system after she was fired.
DeSantis' covid response looks "crazy" to liberals only because blue states went so extreme with their responses. DeSantis just followed the pandemic play book that was in place, before people like Cuomo and Whitmer panicked in spring of 2020.
Interesting b/c my friends in public health do not think his conduct was most becoming. Cuomo and Whitmer had to taken drastic steps as their states were epicenters for the virus. They say DeSantis operated in an uneven, inequitable manner, especially in the early days of the vaccine distribution when he prioritized donors over more vulnerable population groups.
Wait. Your "friends in public health" are not aware that Cuomo's decision to send elders with Covid to nursing homes full of older, vulnerable people resulted directly in THOUSANDS of deaths?
Truly equitable, that was.
Btw, the "donor" thing is BS too. Florida gave earlier access to vaccines to populations based on their actual risk, not on their skin color (or their $$).
He prioritized people with means. Poor, uninsured people who were high risk could not access the vaccine without a note from a doctor, which costs hundreds of dollars.

During Covid, he changed policy so that an elderly, bed-bound person in a nursing home only needs to have a grand total of 2 hours of care per day.
AND changed the rules so that the people actually doing the care have ZERO medical background and only need to do a few hours of training, which can be done online. These people can administer medications to the elderly!
Two hours includes total time to feed, bathe, clothe, administer medications, transfer from bed to wheelchair, assist with toileting, etc.
Prop up an elderly person, stick their tray in front of them, come back 30 minutes later and these untrained, minimum background, minimum wage check people can and will fudge the numbers and say they spent 30 minutes assisting them eating.
Do this times three and you are already almost at 2 hours. This is why the elderly are sitting around in the same clothes for days on end, are not getting their medications on time (or at all), are lying in urine, getting deep bed sores, or are dying.
The big corporations that own these places are laughing all the way to the bank with U.S. taxpayers money in the form of Medicare/Medicaid which they are raking in. PLUS the money that people are paying on their own from their savings.
DeSantis has fully led/facilitated this current state of affairs. His so called inspection agency, Agency for Health Care Administration is nothing but a joke. They will approve any facility as long as the people aren't literally being chewed on by rats:
Leaking roof, broken windows, mold growing on the walls, bathrooms that don't work? No problem. Substandard food, verbal abuse from staff, no activities? No problem. Failure to keep generators in operational use? No problem. Failure to do background checks on workers? No problem. Failure to check recent licensing of nurses? No problem. Failure to treat residents with dignity and respect? No problem.
Many long-term care facilities are over-medicating the elderly to keep them quiet and keep their workload down. And yes, that includes the very high-priced ones.
You need to provide a link to your very biased take on the changes.
Here is one that explains the changes. Who is against it? The unions, of course.
The most controversial part of the bill involves certified nursing assistants, who provide much of the hands-on care in nursing homes.
Current law requires that certified nursing assistants provide a minimum of 2.5 hours of direct care per resident per day. The bill would reduce that to two hours.
Also, current law requires that certified nursing assistants and licensed nurses provide a weekly average of 3.6 hours of direct care per patient per day. The bill would keep that 3.6-hour average, but it would allow time spent by other types of workers, such as physical therapists and occupational therapists, to be factored into the calculation.
Supporters said the changes would provide more flexibility to nursing homes and help address staffing shortages.
“Facilities can use respiratory therapists, mental health therapists, social services, occupational therapists that will care for the residents based on their unique and individualized needs,” Kristen Knapp, a spokeswoman for the Florida Health Care Association, a nursing-home industry group, said Wednesday before DeSantis signed the measure.
