My kids were also thrilled about the full size bars.

I thought people were giving them out bc they were late to the grocery store and that was all that was left. Been there.

I have stock in Hershey! Yes I do!

I give out full size because I’ve always wanted to be That Mom/That Family! It’s easy, too. One full size bar per
tOTer/no handfuls of assorted treats.

Also, any extras can be used for s’mores. Peanut free-at least the full sized bars are, so another easy reason.

Hey OP - one of my neighbors had a huge roll of dollar bills and handed singles out to each kid. The kids were BESIDE THEMSELVES. Just letting you know in case you had calmed down about the full size bars.

update: we gave out just short of 200 full sized candy bars and almost every kid over 5 was so excited. Our family loves bringing joy, and this is one little thing we can easily do. I'd love to know what your kiddo thinks about full sized bars, OP?

Lol. This is so over the top. OP here. Been giving out fun size candy all night, and the kids are happy and smiling here, too! Amazing! My kids are out collecting tons and tons of candy which they will devour when they get back, unrestricted. It’s a beautiful evening. Happy Halloween, DCUM!


All kids are happy and smiling at Halloween. But I can guarantee none of them are seeing your minis and saying “whoa! Really?” “OMG!” “Wow full size!” Or yelling to their friends “this house has full size!!” Several kids mouths dropped open, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One super cute 8ish year old boy with his sister kept saying “thank you so much!” as he waited for her to pick her bar.

So no, PP was not over the top. We moved to full size bars about 3 years ago and the response is completely different.


So it really is all about you.

There was a family on our block who used to give gigantic bags of Utz potato chips (like the party size), it would take up half the room in your pillowcase. But they moved during covid. It was really wild. They would have bbq, sour cream and onion, plan, cheddar, etc.

The faces, the wow, the hey mom, look at those big candy bars, some even yelling to mom and dad on the side walk.

I’m doing full sized bars next year. We don’t get that many trick or treaters and I always buy a couple of bags of candy and have a ton leftover. So next year I’m just going to buy an assortment of full-sized bars, probably spend about the same, make the kids on my street really happy, and not have a bunch of leftover candy. I see no downsides other than making you mad, OP.

OP I just don’t understand why instead of getting worked up about full-size candy bars you don’t just reduce the number of houses you go to. I mean, a fun-size Milky Way is probably a third of a full-size, and lots of people let kids take two or three. Giving out full-size on average probably only doubles the amount of candy they get from a single house. Just skip a block, maybe two, and that takes care of your concern about full-size while your kids still get to enjoy the wow factor.

We have always given out minis, but this year I found the full size ones at Costco and figured what the heck - we’ll get to be the “fun” house this year!

And I’m glad I did. It was a blast seeing the expressions on the kids’ faces. Bonus— I ate almost no candy, because psychologically I found it harder to open a full size bar rather than the little ones.

We give the full size bars (packs from Costco). I think we spent around $90 on candy (a little over 100 bars). The kids LOVED it.

My kid came home with over 10 pounds of candy. (I actually weighed it out of curiosity.) Only one full-sized bar in there! Thank god someone in my neighborhood thinks of the children.
