In the book she died (not by fire) after giving birth to a horribly deformed child. I really wonder if they are playing down the fact that incest has consequences. Apparently Viserys and Daemon’s mother and father were also brother/sister as were their grandparents, plus a few generations before that, the original Aegon married both his sisters. Plus Laena and Daemon were cousins. That’s a pretty big ick factor for me.

No it’s already been renewed for 2nd season.

No. I can’t remember exactly how it is spelled out in the source material for HotD (the book Fire and Blood), but the Targaryens can absolutely be burned. What happened with Daenerys was a one-off, attributed to some magic or destiny or something.

Bad episode overall. This may be a new lesson that miniseries shouldn’t span decades and cast changes.

It’s like all the changed characters had a massive personality change plus all need Zoloft plus the castle is now a dungeon and all the fornification artwork is gone.

I like Rhaenyra but she is so unpredictable. One minute she’s rebellious and the other she’s meek. Daenerys wouldn’t tolerate the crap the likes of Criston and Alicent pull. She probably would have had them murdered somehow by now.

OT but adult Rhaenyra is stunning.

This is what I am saying.

I think Rhaenyra alludes to this before she commands Leanor to go to Dragonstone with her. It’s also what was discussed on the beach. She should’ve commanded him to father (or at least try) her first child. I’m a little surprised GRRM and co didn’t take the opportunity to script an MFM sex scene or make allusions to it for the sake of producing a legitimate descendant of both T&V houses. 🤷‍♀️

NP. I too don't understand why Allicent is so mad at Rhaenyra, and your explanation doesn't really make sense, because she DIDN'T have sex with Daemon, so Rhaenyra never lied to Allicent. She just didn't tell her "but oh yeah I banged my protector" -- understandable since that could get him killed.

In the interviews with the show creators after the episode, they did confirm that Allicent was simply angry that Rhaenyra hadn't told her the whole WHOLE truth, but that seems silly to me in context.

I don't understand how this isn't about her dad. He told the king the truth, Rhaenyra lied and denied the truth, and because the king believed her, she told Otto to leave, assuming he was a liar. Alicent found out that R was lying via Sir Criston's confession.

Remind me, how? Cristin didn't say anything about Daemon.

I think it’s just that her father was barking up the right tree, and he was dismissed as a liar.

He wasn’t dismissed for being a liar. He was dismissed because he was using the king to make his own power play for his house (grandson) to sit on iron throne. The king realized he’d been manipulated while grieving his first wife.
