I’m German and severely allergic to “patriotism”, but I love the 4th of July BBQ’s and fireworks. Luckily the ones we have been to were a celebration of friends and family and not “the greatest country on earth”.

Will still celebrate. The pendulum swings in a direction I line and then sometimes it swings in a direction I do not like. I won’t give in to drama. I will do what I can locally to help out those in need and advocate for what I believe in. No one el has to have the same belief system I do, but they do have to follow the law. The country has changed on many positive ways in my lifetime. Many changes took too long and were overdue. I have lived abroad and the grass is not always greener. The more diverse we become the more differences in options we have to deal with. I still feel very lucky to be American.

I don’t do the fourth. Stopped a few years ago. It’s just a random Monday holiday to me. I don’t see the point of getting eaten by mosquitos to watch fireworks.

Happy to make it political this year, as I’m disgusted and disheartened to no longer be a full citizen of this country.

Those judges haven't told anyone what to do or not do. They're (rightly) leaving those decisions up to the states' voters. You seem terribly uninformed.


So States have the right to dictate about abortion but, not about guns? Do you not see the contradiction or you just don't care that half the population has no personal freedom or right to privacy anymore.

The level of absolute disgust for religious conservatives that want to force their bible humping beliefs on others is intense in zoomers, millennials and gen X. Migrants die trying to get to all different places throughout the world. Obviously not just America. What's your point? We were specifically talking about the US and celebrating the 4th of July. Despite Roe being overturned, way too many mass shootings, and many, many other flaws in our country, people are still coming in droves and risking their lives to live here. That puts things in perspective.

Ever since ‘America first’ became a thing I’ve dialed back from
flags and overt signs of patriotism. I don’t stand for what this country was built on but I do believe in what we can become.

This SCOTUS thing? This is the conservatives last stand. All you have to do is hang out with America’s youth and see that this shit won’t fly much longer. Our kids are much more inclusive, loving, and tolerant than any previous generation.

I’ll celebrate the Heck out of the America they create!

I was born here and won’t leave because this is my country and I still believe what were American values. Daughter of a career military dad who was a strong advocate for individual rights and separation of church and state.
