Commute. We were looking within 20-30 minute commute from my and dh’s work, in Md, Dc, & Va. didn’t have a preference. Ended up liking a house in MD, so ended up in MD.

We moved here last year and it looks like our jobs are staying local remote, so that takes our commute concerns off the table. For some people there is no difference. For others it is night and day. We visited both a lot. My view after that was that Maryland was crap. Everywhere. While VA was crap lots of places there were places that were not. Everything about Maryland was awful. I don't even like to drive through there. But here is the thing, lots of people from Maryland have the exact same view of VA. It is really the feel you get.


At least in Maryland driving makes sense

Sure, go from red light to red light as an excuse for traffic calming. Moved to va and would never move back to Md.


I get lost in Northern Virginia. Why all the streets named the same? Dolly Madison chain bridge? Wht not give them different names? Thats what I meanr.

Also I wouldnt want to have a governor only in four years


I get lost Bethesda and Rockville. Tiny crowded streets.

Moved to MOCO for the privates. Publics are trash. Needed access to the most and best privates. It’s prettier as well. Found NOVA to be hardscrabble and haphazard aesthetically.

I picked right in between and landed on the most posh street in DC! Va/Md people are always welcomed but must always use the servants’ entrance.

When our children were very young, we moved from MD to VA to take advance of in-state tuition, which is a great deal at UVA.

I wanted my kids to have in-state access to the entire Virginia college system. It’s not just UVA and W&M. VT had a great engineering school. Vcu has programs that UVA doesn’t even offer, like marketing and interior design. The state does a great job of spreading out strong programs.

We have shorter commutes in VA so that is why we picked it. Only downside for is Jewish community is less strong here.
