Slightly more subtle one, but I don't think Pursuit of Happyness could be made today.

After the 2008 crash, people really soured on the American Dream and watching it back, it has a sort of Reagan-esque optimism that one can pull themselves up if they work hard enough. I still like the movie, but I don't think a story like that would get green lit.

Your recollection is based on the fact that you adhered to social norms of the times -- its is why most of us "loved" these movies then and are appalled by them now. In some ways they were groundbreaking by putting on the screen issues and topics that had been taboo. They move the world forward. But looking back, they were still of their time. Another great moving recently criticized though it attempted to be 'forward thinking' on feminism, is "Tootsie." The excellent documentary "This Changes Everything" -- a huge must see for all -- highlights what was awkwardly backward about the film from the female point of view.

There are many movies that will never be transferred to dvd Blu-ray or streaming for this reason . In the 1990s my dad videotaped ww2 era movie called First Yank In Tokyo about a white American who has plastic surgery to look Japanese so he can go to a Japanese pow camp to rescue a nuclear scientist . His girlfriend was also at that camp and he eventually reveals himself to her. At the end he basically decides to stay and fight and die rather than return to the USA with his girlfriend while looking Japanese

There are some movies that shouldn’t be made today like “For a Lost Soldier”. A Dutch movie about a sexual relationship between a Canadian soldier and a Dutch 12 year old boy . If you Google the contemporary movie reviews from 1991 or 1992 when it came out, it got glowing reviews. It’s still sold on Amazon , Walmart etc. wtf are people thinking ?
