I think both of those can be – and in this case are – true.

So what is the official story on the basement dweller?
First article I saw stated that it was the owner's caretaker and his wishes were for her and her son to be able to live there indefinitely.
Second article I saw stated that it was a squatter who refused to leave. The owner and their family didn't have the resources or time to deal with the eviction process and hoped that the new owners could do it.

I heard the same thing but it was all CASH. Which makes a difference considering the outdated shape the main floors are in plus the vagrant problem.
It had to be cash because no lender would touch this situation. Appraiser would need to see the basement, for starters.
Why did the listing status go to canceled instead of under contract? So weird.
