So basically, MoCo relies entirely on govt jobs and some crappy low paying service sector jobs at places like Giant, Safeway, and Target. Meanwhile in NoVa, the top employers are major banks, super high end tech and software companies, top consulting firms, and other major professional services firms. I never knew MoCo was getting its lunch eaten this bad. NoVa has way, way better jobs and a far better diversity of jobs/firms. MoCo relies entirely on govt, clearly has a severe lack of innovative firms that pay high salaries when compared to NoVa, and a large portion of their residents working in very low quality service sector jobs that probably pay just over minimum wage. How is MoCo not doomed with this flimsy of a tax and employer base?
The fact that every third car coming down/back on Georgetown Pike has MD plates told me this a long time ago. That and the traffic from same cars on back roads near the beltway in McLean

If the MD drivers would just learn to drive, it would (partially) make up for them clogging VA roads.
The worst traffic accident that closed the bridge was caused by a VA driver. Just sayin'
Using 2019 data, the car crash rate per capita in both MoCo and Fairfax is approximately 1.1%

At Bles Park in Ashburn, the Potomac is narrower than many houses.
A bridge would be cheaper and more practical.
MD has no interest in improving connections to VA. It's a dumb stance that ends up only hurting MD more, especially MoCo.

MoCo cares too much about that ag preserve rather than bringing in high paying jobs . If they can't bring in the high paying jobs, at least provide better infrastructure so that people can get to FFX to their jobs a bit more easily. Mass transit over the one bridge to FFX is not tenable. Taking metro to FFX is even worse. There needs to be another bridge.

What an idiotic post. People in the Tri-State area are even more competitive about where they live and came up with all sorts of put-downs, such as referring to people who don’t live in Manhattan or Westchester as the “bridge and tunnel crowd.”
That being acknowledged, MoCo hasn’t kept up with NoVa, and it’s dissatisfied residents upset with Elrich who tend to point out the growing disparities the most.

DC people are also obsessed with hating Maryland. When we first moved here we lived three blocks from the Maryland border. Like all of our neighbors, we did most of our shopping for groceries, etc. In Maryland.
The neighborhood listerve was full of complaints about how people from Maryland dared drive through our neighborhood, how badly they drove in general, how much crime they brought with them, how we should not have any businesses near our neighborhood because it might encourage more of them to come.
And then there was the obsession about Maryland people attending DC schools....

There is something deeply toxic about the DMV. It shouldn't be a freaking contest. This is one metropolitan area spread over two states and the District. To pit one section against another is stupid.
That being said, I would never live in Nova because it is a series of traffic islands surrounding hideous new builds and strip malls.

Why are there so many posts about DC? This discussion isn't about DC.
Regarding MOCO and Fairfax, I've started to see recently movement by Fairfax politically to follow MOCO down the drain, so I'm not convinced Fairfax relative success will continue much longer.

If they built the bridge, there could be better access to Dulles Airport from MC. More business may want to move to MC. It’s too late for attracting business but there is still room to improve commute between NoVa and MC. We need tax paying residents in MC to support UBi.
