I thought that was from the $200K good faith advance that the finance company deposited for her? But I don’t understand the $30K that she used to pay the bill at Neff’s hotel - it seemed as though she had blown through all that money by then.

I was sadden when the reporter went to Germany and in the small town at the shop the man said he didn’t trust Russians. Then Anna, who is really untrustworthy, ended up being a scammer. She knew it never would have been feasible in Germany because no one would have believed her. Now her story is being reported in Germany and it leads credence to people who believe all Russians immigrants are scammers. So all the trustworthy Russian immigrants are really getting hurt by her.

Agreed. And I still can’t fathom how that bank was even contemplating loaning her $20 million - much less $5.00. She didn’t have any proof of anything!

She had a russian accent but was faking german. It did not work.

It perplexed me too. And the fact that Anna knew so much about the finance world at such a young age, with no real work experience. I can't even imagine knowing all the right things to say in order to get someone to loan me $20 million!


This is like, con-artist 101. Have any of you read or seen "Catch Me if You Can"? They just fake it + charisma. Goes a long way.

I found the series incredibly slow moving although the story is fascinating. I did a lot of fast forwarding throughout the entire series.

I’m late to this but has anyone explained Anna’s awful-sounding voice & accent? Is it authentic of something? I get that Russian and German are “harsh” sounding but not nasally and whatever else Anna had going.

Her bosses would not have paid for it before the article became the success it did.

I don't think that actually happened. That whole episode seemed contrived and made up.

Also I looked up real Anna’s picture and I mean, where is the style they all talked about? She looked sooo Russian on those pictures I was laughing my ass off. Make up and clothes, typical Russian. How did she fool anyone. The Anna on Netflix looks completely different
