Given the actions undertaken by these people, I really think the root cause is lack of critical thinking, PP. Arrogance, sure. But there are not smart individuals to begin with.
I think its because some of the most powerful people in the country were behind them and/or supporting them.
They were being *used* by Trump et al because of their anger and lack of critical thinking.
Why do you excuse their violence? Why don’t you think the people who had a death list and bombs should be held morally responsible for their crimes?
PP isn't excusing them at all. Yes, they should go to jail. But PP is pointing out that many people surrounding Trump have fallen for that, even though Trump is known for exploiting people then abandoning them to their fate. Now are they ALL stupid? What's their deal?
Yes thank you! I’m not excusing them at all. Omg no, they belong in jail. They absolutely committed sedition/treason. But they absolutely were sold a pack of lies and used. Saying that, I also think they absolutely must own the fact that they agreed to be used and buy into the lies and conspiracy theories. They have no innocence whatsoever.
Trump was only a means to the end: an insurrection. These weren’t your typical dumbass mouth-breathing rubes. Stop the Steal just gave them cover.
