Life is cheap in DC.
What do you think the appropriate penalty should be for accidental death?
+1
This was an accident. Not someone out to murder someone else.

DP. What do you think the appropriate penalty should be for driving so recklessly that you killed a person?
“imprisonment for up to 3 months and a maximum fine of $500”
I think the penalty for driving so recklessly that you killed a person should be more than imprisonment for up to 3 months and a maximum fine of $500.
So what should the penalty be?
The penalty for manslaughter in DC is imprisonment for up to 30 years and a maximum fine of $75,000.
You don’t know the difference between voluntary manslaughter and negligent homicide and also don’t understand the differences between these crimes.
There is a lot of space between 3 months/$500 and 30 years/$75,000, in terms of penalties for killing people.
Impressive confidence to believe that you know the law better than the US Attorney

Anonymous wrote:How sad and pathetic that it took MPD three years to recommend charges and three years for USAO to actually file them. Whoever is truly responsible for this part of this fiasco, it's disgusting that a driver can kill a pedestrian and not face charges for three years afterward. MPD and USAO were leaving no stone unturned trying to find a reason not to charge the driver.
