St. Andrew's had 15 National Merit "commended" scholars this year, according to recent Facebook post.

Too few Asians in private schools. Get Asians in and their performance will improve dramatically too.

It’s just that the STEM curriculum is substandard in private schools and so Asians avoid them . improve the STEM curriculum and then Asian Americans will join l.

The national "commended" score is so low relative to DC that likely there are scores at each of the "rigorous" independent schools. I would be curious about this as well

Bullis announced that it had four.

Mostly about their kids not hanging out in the Bethesda Giant on Friday nights.

Maret’s results were basically the same as Holton Arms. Both have classes of around 85 and both had 4-5 semifinalists. Makes sense to me in terms of “pecking order”.

Well, GDS usually is ranked three or four behind St. Albans, NCS and Sidwell. Both WIS and Maret beat GDS on this list at least.

😂

In fairness, I hear a few of them speaking French so there is at least a couple Rochambeau kids hanging out there FWIW.

OP- nothing happened.

The selection process starts with taking the PSAT though in fall of Junior year. To a family, in October or 2020 most skipped the test due to Covid. Think about it, would you have wanted your healthy, unvaccinated teen to sit in a room for 4 hours in a mask JUST SO they could be a National Merit blah, blah.

It seems some schools encouraged that and other families thought it just wasn't worth it.

There were also lots of seats on airplanes and empty hotels. Many of us passed on those as well.

Congrats to all the kids who did well and, especially to their parents who can read their child's name in WAPO !!!

Maret's results are interesting if you consider the usual pecking order of schools on this board.
