What I don’t understand is what happened to the VLc/Cavs 28s? We are on another team and had historically been stomped by the Cavs 28s. Then VLc took over, we played what appeared to be the same team with VLc helmets and they were terrible! Maybe they lost some key kids with the merger? The Cavs 28s team was actually a nice team to play gave us a stretch goal. They switched helmets as forgot how to play lacrosse.

I feel like we are talking in circles. No one is arguing that VLC has quality older teams 23s-26s. The concern is with the 27 age group and younger. And the 27s didn't leave for True VA they left for DCE.


A lot of time driving, they must enjoy the 495 traffic crossing the Potomac.

I feel like we are talking in circles. No one is arguing that VLC has quality older teams 23s-26s. The concern is with the 27 age group and younger. And the 27s didn't leave for True VA they left for DCE.

I know True VA is relatively new and don’t have any youth HOCO data to speak about but what are the prospects for this coming spring for True VA youth teams vs VLC youth teams. What would you rank the current local club team options….excluding teams that practice in MD exclusively.

National teams do not do as well at the HS level. Some teams do use out of state players.

I keep hearing about VLC parents interested in True as well at the younger ages but I can’t see the upside. Haven’t heard a really good reason to jump ship. The reasons I have heard are ignore the basic structure of the local teams as feeders to the regional and national teams.

I hear a lot of VLC parents across all youth grad years are interested in True. Would love to hear why? I think True coaches are decent but their organizational structure doesn’t allow for local teams to compete in any of the top tournaments. Even if a local True team was good enough to compete, True would simply have the best players join the National team. Leave behind the rest of the team to play in lower tier tournaments. VLC appears to have a pipeline to great tournaments which will only strengthen teams as time goes on and they field teams at the younger ages. My assessment is that there is a team culture at VLC and an individual culture at True.

I heard True VA is looking for players, you should check them out.


Why would he switch teams? He made a team that plays in the elite division at Hoco. I’ve heard good things about True though. Their national teams are super competitive.

My son tried out for the 28s and we declined the offer for their elite team. The club seems a mess and the coach was unimpressive to say the least. I know they have some great teams here and there, but the 28s are not it. After talking to some families it seems that team will probably fall apart. Doesn’t seem families are happy.

You are seriously citing 23's HoCo experience when they are rising seniors when HoCo ended for them in 8th grade? Just wow! Give me a time that VLC beat any of those top teams in the 24 class? 25s? 26s? They are most definitely NOT a strong program. A big part of it is Coach Mabry pushing his own program over the VLC. Another chunk of it is Crabs not giving them the resources and then cherry picking the best, but no way would any parent reasonably consider ML, NL, DCE, Hawks, 91 in the same breath as VLC. VLC is on par with Richmond Hawks, Predators, maybe FCA and maybe True Annapolis. But don't even think for a second that the club is on par with the big dogs in that class.


This past spring in HoCo, VLC 2026 beat MadLax and DC Express, and likely would have beat NextLevel, had NL been in the elite division. Just saying.
