Actually I can see her point on this one. They had been pretty much brainwashed to accept that what happened was ok and that it really was no big deal. There wasn't anyone or anything they had access to that could contradict that so they believed it, embraced it and went on with their lives. Now they can clearly see the lie for what it was and they have to be asking themselves now what else could their parents have lied about.

As a parent, it is my responsibility to properly educate my children intellectually, emotionally, socially. This includes teaching them about sex, boundaries, respect for themselves and for others, right from wrong, good citizenship, kindness, healthy forms of love and communication, and critical thinking. If one of my adolescent kids thought that forcing themselves sexually on a 4 year old was normal, or a "mistake", I would be terrified that they had been abused themselves, and heartbroken for their victims. I would get them treatment, and face whatever legal and therapeutic consequences need to be faced. And I would NEVER pimp this out on TV for money. So yes, I am educating my son AND daughters to be independent, strong, caring individuals. Not setting them up to become sexual predators or victims.

As a human being, I cannot for the life of me understand how opinion plays into the established facts of this case. You either believe that the molestation of a child is wrong, or that it is acceptable practice. It is illegal, regardless of your feelings about it. The media and public opinion are far more mainstream in their reaction than the Duggar family. Add to this the fact that the Duggar family makes their money from the media and public opinion, and you have quite a bit to chew on. The Duggar family should, at minimum, be taken off the air and stop making money from showcasing their family and subjecting their minor children to the cameras to line their pockets.

I actually feel bad. I usually make it my policy not to rush to judgement, wait for the facts. I was part of the mob this time around though. Now that the facts are coming to light I have changed my mind, I should have waited.

Sounds like an honest mistake to me. This is a pretty heated topic that there are two very opposing viewpoints of. I like the duggars, and I feel terrible for what happened in the past and that their lives are being destroyed for it now. I quit posting for a while because there was no point in trying to discuss anything when people are just attacking left and right. I really appreciate your honesty and open mindedness. I think it's not an easy thing to do, and honestly, I've tried to see it from other points of view, but some of the people are just so extreme that it's hard to see it from their point of view.

I can't believe I actually watched the interview but I did.

I felt like Jim Bob at times was dismissive to Josh's actions when he described it as over the clothes and the girls were not even aware of it until the parents told them about it. But then at other times referred to his daughters as victims and should have been protected more (mainly when he is discussing the release of documents). I felt like he was jumping on whatever side was convenient.

I found it really interesting that Jim Bob distinguished that state law was 16 and up would be an adult preying on a child and since Josh was 14/15 it was a child preying on a child. I don't think he realized he even referred to his son in that way because of the denial/defense of his sons actions during the rest of the interview.

I am curious how they would have handled it had it not been a family member that did the exact same thing. If a neighbor or family friend of the same age did the exact same actions that Josh did would their choice of dealing with it be discussing it as a family, discussing it with church elders and then police or would it have been brought to the police much sooner?

The Daily Mail has an article about their current home which was built after these incidents. I think it is good that they took the actions to design the home the way they did but I don't understand why if they had to go through that much planning to design a home to protect their daughters, why were they not sending him to live outside the home? Clearly, if they had to take all of those measures to design their house to protect their daughters they were aware that it was still a problem to be concerned about.

There seems to be a lot of confidence that the only incidents that happened were the ones Josh admitted to. I can't fathom that there haven't been others he hasn't admitted to.

The sisters that are speaking out and don't think he should be labeled and treated how he is but curious if they would be comfortable with Josh being alone in the presence of their daughters? And why was he not involved in their weddings?

Also, I thought Michelle looked like a dear in headlights and had no response when they were discussing the robo call she made about transgendered people and public restrooms.

I was not aware that Jim Bob ran for Senate before. Makes me wonder how much they were seeking fame and limelight? They always described being approached by reality TV as very happenstance but were they secretly wanting to get into something in the limelight?

It's true that he never raped his sisters, and the molestation was mostly mild. Perhaps the sisters didn't feel an extreme violation of trust. If they did, they don't seem to have received much support from their parents.

And to have any immediately been made the subject of a reality show?

I think you already said that, somewhere midthread. You called my concern for the victims and Josh insincere. It's not. While I strongly disapprove of their religion, I feel very badly for the children that were molested by their brother and then ignored by their parents. I also feel bad for the other children, raised in such an atmosphere.
