+1. Thank you for your common sense take! There has been definitely weaponizing of anti-racism, and for some reason a lot of this hatred from pro H side is directed at Asian women in particular. Idk if this is intentional because, historically, Asian women are seen as “obedient”. Perhaps, pro H just think Asian women are the easiest targets. Stop attacking community members.
The only reason we are talking about Asian women is because the post about the meeting last night- which kicked off this entire line of conversation- referenced Asian women.
That post referenced Asian women because that’s what happened. Why do pro H advocates feel the need to target Asian women with their public vitriol?
I wasn’t at the Taylor forum, but saw the video. The dude at the end who made the classist remark was a white dude. I didn’t see any pro H folks go up to him to scream in his face. Last night, no one made any racist or classist remarks, yet pro H feel that it is ok for some white lady to scream in the faces of multiple Asian women who didn’t had zero desire to engage with her.
How about an approach instead that targets all, equal opportunity? NP. Plenty of others to get in the face of… white dudes too can be in scope.

Agree with this approach. Start with that white lady who hates Asian women.

As Will Smith said.
Asian person here. Can you all just stop? Regardless of what side, pro or anti H. Move on with the Asian this or that… it’s not a monolith anyway, the Asian population. Getting tired of my people being spoken of. Yawn.

I knew people that went to the meeting but they didn't really say anything about her last night. Although the person I knew left early, so might've missed anything that got escalated.
If it's the same person it sounds like that lady is a Dufief mom who the anti H people are kind of tired about and may not have been receptive of her.
I think the whole issue of the public sentiment and the sentiment of the pro H people towards the anti H people is problematic. What are the accusations? They're racist, classist, etc.
Yeah that might be the reasoning behind some of them but it's not all of them.
Just think about it, if MCPS had the money and tried to keep the majority happy. So they send Dufief, Travilah, Stonemill, Fields Road and the Rosemont island to Crown. Then kept Lakewood, Fallsmead and Cold Spring at the current Wootton, would the Dufief families be happy? They still have three of the original Wootton feeders going to their school, plus one outside ES and a tiny island of another school.
If they have any issues with that proposal, again pretending that cost isn't a factor, it's the same reasons the Parkway people have.
You can criticize a school and population and not really make it about race or class. Some things are just the way things are. We know three people that taught at Fields Road. One person is a sub who seemed to be a preference of the principal and loved getting long term assignments at that school. Then two teachers who didn't stay there for more then two or three years due to the chaotic environment. So two out of three teachers who had issues with the environment there.
Then families see the negative reviews posted for the school here:
https://www.greatschools.org/maryland/gaithersburg/892-Fields-Road-Elementary-School/#Reviews
(there are positive reviews too)
If outside families see the above, it's kind of a valid reason to have concern about the new grouping of schools.
Then even people in those communities are eager to get out of it. From what I gather, a good portion of the Washingtonian Woods families send their kids to private school or Poolesville. They have residents signing the petition for Option H and I don't know if it's people trolling but you see posters on DC Urbanmom suggest that Washingtonian Woods get reassigned to Dufief.
Then you have the Rosemont island people chomping at the bit to have the Wootton students go to Crown. They apparently refuse to wait and have their kids go to Gaithersburg HS in the meantime.
The same reasons why some of the Rosemont island and Washingtonian Woods families don't want their kids in the local schools are the same reasons why the Wootton families don't want the change in schools.
No one said anything about race, class, etc. It's just facts, some schools have issues. And if you say something like, well that's the norm for MCPS and welcome to the real world, that's where the whole issue is. Where that's not the norm for Wootton and why families chose to live there.
If you take out the good schools, what appeal does Montgomery County have over neighboring counties?
If that's truly your belief and it's about the school and not the families or kids, then the issue is that your reaction is - oh no - we've got to keep our kids away from them rather than - holy cow - how is MCPS allowed to get away with providing such lopsided experiences where rich kids get great schools and (relatively) poorer kids get crappy ones. But, while you're fighting tooth and nail to keep your kids in the situation they're in, you're also fighting against those kids getting access to better opportunities. Especially since sending those kids to Frost and Wootton would IMMEDIATELY improve their experience and outcomes.
Kind of a different topic but I'm including it my reply to keep this back and forth up to date. But I posted on here a while back the comparison of Wilde Lake MS, Urbana MS and Ridgeview MS using the mdreportcard numbers.
If I recall correctly Wilde Lake MS had a higher Black/African American population and FARMS population but both of their respective populations outperformed Ridgeview. Urbana MS appeared to serve those respective populations, which were smaller, better as well.
So again, the issue lies with the schools, not the populations.
But what is MCPS doing to help these schools? Mixing it in with higher performing schools at the MS and HS levels aren't going to help. Because everything starts at the ES level. Students are placed on their math tracks by fourth or fifth grades.
I also frequently post how the rigors at high schools are different and it's not fair to the hardworking students at some schools because they are given ceilings. Or no indications of how they're performing until it comes time for standardized tests or they go to college and realize how far they're behind. Mixing the schools WILL help these one or two students.
But if MCPS is really looking to improve their schools, they would start at the elementary school level and work from the foundation going up. These regional programs giving students access at the HS level are already putting students on different footing. And the same applies to MS.
All of this has been discussed in previous threads since the beginning of the boundary proposals.

This is not what is happening. I am so sick of SOME members of the Wootton community justifying their behavior and denying their racism. I hope a reporter gets ahold of all of these receipts and writes a story about the true motivations of their being so against this move to Crown.
Then share what they said and what was racist about it and how it impacted the group they were being racist towards.
Boundary zones are temporary but internet metadata is forever. Shocking to see what people put in writing on WhatsApp when their phone # links to realtor pages or other community jobs!
THIS. I know what doctor I'll never send my kids to...

Some of the community seems to think that the Asian population is being unfairly targeted with the move to Crown. Why? Is it racist? It was specifically mentioned in questions at the Dr. Taylor night.
