The Democrats never speak about the bills that the Republicans refuse to vote on or vote no one like the pump act.
Democrats need to be out there all day everyday pushing their own narratives instead of always playing defense. Hell I don't even think they play defense half the time anymore.

Use examples like Colorado, where they gave free contraceptives, and the abortion rate droppd by half and the program more than paid for itself because WIC, CHIP and other costs drop too. Free contraceptives not only reduces abortions significantly, it is actually a fiscally conservative thing to do.

The CO Republicans canceled that because they didn’t like paying for women to have sex without consequences, even though it achieved a lot of their alleged goals-saving money and lowering abortion rates among others. We’re fighting for our basic rights against insane people.

Yeah, the Colorado test program is what proved to me that it’s not about being pro-life or even anti-abortion. When that report came out I thought “wow! Every state will do this!” Nope.

Precisely. It’s just a misogynistic desire to control women.

The way to get abortion laws on the books in every state?

Pass laws that say that a woman who is denied an abortion gets to publicly identify the father, the government pays for a paternity test and if positive, the father is required to pay for the medical expenses of the mother and the care of the child until the child graduates college or high school if the child does not go to college.

If you hit them in the pocketbook, men will change the laws to allow abortions.

Could not agree more ! In ways that the majority of Americans without college degrees can understand but without sounding snooty.

Specifically they need to talk about:
* Female free states versus female unfree states;
* Countries and states with access to reproductive health services (contraception, family planning and abortion) leads to MUCH lower abortion rates;
* Women’s right to choose is a basic human right; and
* Entire societies do better by every measure when women enjoy full human rights.

As PP said, one single PP page.

Why not ACOG? Why not a standard medical textbook?

The cherry-picking is ripe.

“The only moral abortion is my abortion.”

For those who haven’t read this piece (it’s from 2000 so there’s a good chance that you have), it’s a collection of stories from doctors about all the forced birthers who have gotten abortions. It’s worth a read: https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/

Statistically speaking, most of the people on this very thread who have posted against abortion have had one or paid for one. Whether or not they want to credit those abortions for how great their life is another thing, but they the abortion they needed.

I literally know people like this. It's disgusting. It's the typical Republican mindset of, I got mine F you.

It’s GOP sociopathy.

I know a couple girls from high school who had one that are now vehemently against it. I also know a girl from high school who got pregnant Right out of high school and used food stamps and assistance to go to nursing school but she voted for Trump because she was sick of people getting hand outs.

Oh my god, same. I know someone that was on Welfare when they were in their late teen/early 20's and now that they're established and doing well want Welfare ended. Like, how can people be like this?

WOW— this hypocrisy is beyond belief. I am the exact opposite. I probably could not go through with an abortion except if it was born if rape/ incest/ DV. I am quite religious for myself although appreciate many are not, and for good reasons. However, I strongly support women’s right to the make choices for themselves. Honoring the sanctity of life involves science-based reproductive health services.

Rates of abortion are much lower in places that have liberal abortion laws, good reproductive health services that help women and men to plan, if and when, they are ready to care for children. We need to respect the vital roles that medical reproductive health service providers Play in keeping women and babies healthy. That includes those who perform abortions as well as OB GYNs/ nurses/ support team staff. It is i terrible that they live in fear for their lives and professional standing in some states.

Maternal death rates are also much lower in places with liberal abortion laws. The maternal death rates among women of color in US are already very high.

Adoption will not solve all problems and will create new ones. We have both biological and adopted children and in our experience, meeting the needs of sooted children is way more complicated. All the usual problems on top of identity issues/ fears of abandonment/ longing for biological family. There is no perfect way to address all this but we Muddle through. Some never do and I personally know of failed adoptions that have hurt adoptees well into middle age

Some women with existing children cannot even afford to stay pregnant and feed and shelter their existing children.

Other women may never bond with children born of rape/ incest or DV and thus those babies will likely experience much deprivation of love and stability.

It is shocking to me that some women who have needed abortions themselves would happily deny that option to other women in need.

I hope for the sake of so many women and children that federal right to choose protections are codified somehow.
