Normally to fill a lower-level team as a revenue effort (get as many parents as possible to pay who desperately want their kid to play travel).

-They will produce X coach once they understand they have the overhead to cover it, however this will very likely be a very low-level, bottom of barrel and inexperienced coach.

You better off trying out for another club or going back to recreation.

Last year they hired the 2013 G white team coach late in the game and he is excellent.

Late in the game? Can you explain or did you mean the season?

They had tryouts and the coach that selected the team quit before the season started. So they hired Al and we love him.

You should stop posting so much identifying information about yourself. I bet I could look at a picture of that team and pick out who your daughter is based on your post syntax. Not good.

How is a new coach SA from GFR, Is he good?

So I have looked into this Coach and it seems like parents are very divided on him. Some parents liked him and others did not. It does seem like he is not leaving on the best of terms. From what I’ve heard he seems very cocky and will overpromise parents and tell them what they want to hear and will not deliver. Which is what a lot of parents had issues with At Great Falls.

We did see him Coach the other weekend, which is when we chatted with the parents and I didn’t see anything alarming or positive to note.

So you went to a soccer game your kid wasn’t playing in, and approached parents to ask them about their kids’ coach? And you got all this and can confidently say “this is what a lot of parents had issues with” from a single sideline conversation with a few parents who were ostensibly also trying to watch their kids play?

I’m calling BS on this. You are either entirely making this up or you are someone with a bone to pick pretending to be a parent who “looked into” the coach.

Majority of the info was gathered from this websites Great Falls page. I asked. They answered.
We happen to have a game last weekend against great falls and he had his team play before us. I asked a parent on the sideline who the coach was and they verified it was him. I started a conversation with them and two other families chimed in. I watched the remainder of the game.

So you’re admitting that you’re regurgitating posts from here, while pretending that you have info from additional people.

Both of SA’s teams played at Nike Park last Sunday. There were no games for 2014 boys or girls at Nike Park that day. If you don’t have a 2014, why would you approach parents you don’t know to ask them about a coach who will not be coaching your kid?

You are making things up.

You really need to shut up.

I was there with my daughters team who played after them. I know crazy one family with two children who play travel sports. When he was named the coach for the the U11 boys team I posted and asked in the Great Falls group on here. Why is that an issue? I then chatted up some parents at the game. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL? Why do you think I am lying? Who would lie about that?

Go and look up where the 2013 Gold girls played this past weekend. NIKE PARK.

So they did tryouts without a coach hired or did the original coach quit?

Sounds more like the parent of a kid who was on his team but why not just say so?

Other parents do it all the time during games, tournaments and tryouts to collate information on the team/coach. I'm sure you've done that in the past regardless of this conversation.

IMO, you ought to ask a couple of questions...

What is their expectation on coach/parent engagement: How often, what's too much and too little?

Player development approach, outlook for the season? Where we are today, what I want us to look like by mid-season and towards the end of the year.
-Rotation in positioning vs pigeon-holing players early in youth development?
-How will they determine time/minutes on the field?
-How will they determine performance improvement/assessment/feedback?

Are they...
-Assertive, confident, project authority and demand discipline?
-Proactive in correcting issues on the spot with executing drills.
-Working on the basics when those fundamentals are not meeting performance thresholds? What does that expectation look like?

Are the players sitting around for X number minutes while other kids/teams/coaches seem to be already training? Why is that?

What does attendance, custody and accountability for players look like for the coach?
-Do they just leave the kids on the fields?

What a treat! A rare sighting of intelligent life in this thread! (Really the whole soccer subforum...)

Well said and agree 100%. Even asking half of these should give you a pretty good idea of whether or not a coach is worth spending a year and a few grand for...

Extraordinarily, some clubs might actually view this as becoming too aggressive.

Its baffling.

When you procure any capability, widget or service....

For example, in a car: You want to understand the overall performance: reliability; speed/pickup, maintenance/sustainment costs, cargo/towing capacity, power/torque, technology and automation, efficiency in fuel and energy costs.

In all these areas, we always apply this forward thinking to "things" we buy, but it always seems like struggle to facilitate in what should be the most routine questions.

Completely agree with this. However many coaches will just tell you what you want to hear and then go and do the opposite. This is typical with new coaches to club. That is why talking to the parents of a current team is needed however typically isn't done because they are hard to find.
