The restaurants are just OK.
DC in general I think is more interesting but compared to NYC, Chicago, Miami, you are joking that it's a top city.
It's all relative really, around here I couldn't be happier geographically living elsewhere because of the proximity to Old Town Arlington DC. But if u has a choice, I'd be in an actual city.
On the topic of the stadium, I think it's a bad move for us locals but a practical decision by Ted. Not sure how much $$ he'll make but if the teams are good, I think people will show up. There's a ton of mediocre restaurants and I'm always surprised how people flock there. I really think that people will do the only thing they can if no other choices.
I think it's a huge devastating loss to DC but they messed up. I think this will ultimately happen in PY though I don't have every confidence it'll be awesome, I do think it will work for Ted.
I have to disagree on a bunch of those points. Sure, Clarendon has some good restaurants and things but it's a fcking mess in every other way. Traffic sucks, as does urban planning and there's barely any green space to break up all the concrete. As for DC's status as a city, I'd agree NYC gives it a run for its money on theater and other things but then it drops off fast. Beyond the Met, what world class museums does NYC have? Most of the handful of others like the Guggenheim are barely an hour or two's worth of visit. I mean, Cloisters is cool, Morgan is cool but then what? Many of them don't even have reserves or rotating exhibits, you see it once and it's done. And sure, there's Broadway but man, so much of that's gone scammy and overrated as well. As for your other cities, Chicago, Miami... are you fzcking kidding? What's so damn special about those. Go see the Bean and the Museum of Science and Industry, pass out on a slab of that cheese casserole they call pizza in Chicago, so what? Ay, cuban sandwich and salsa dance in Miami! Don't trip over the dead body in the parking lot tho.
As for the stadium, look man... these guys are paying hundreds of millions in contracts for players. LUDICROUS that they then come to us taxpayers and tell us that we have to cough up billions to build a stadium for those overpriced players to play in. If Virginia's a big enough sucker to pay for it, so be it. For me so what - it's like 20 minutes further on the Metro if they end up at Potomac Yards. I don't feel a pressing need to pay 2 billion for that. And oh, 2 billion is only the starter. It will be a lot more. Need we remind you Ted is already a billionaire.

The flood risk is not overstated. Alexandria has a huge flooding problem, especially in the Del Ray area. The system is already overstressed and old. It's well known that the city wasn't even clearing storm drains until they were exposed by citizens and jounalists in the last few years.
False.
OK. You sure do seem to know what you're talking about. So articulate!

Nope. Not on BIBA. But nice Ad Hominem attack.Really proves your assertion that Alexandria doesn't have a severe flooding problem.
Please explain how various news articles and the city's own flood table are false.
We believe you!!!

Then DC should be glad to get rid of the Caps and Wizards. It could do something more lucrative with the arena like mixed-use development.
It is time for DC to get out of the subsidizing Ted business. Let Nova tax payers do that to the tune of $3.5 billion.
I have never seen a vibrant neighborhood around a spot complex. On games night it’s a lot of people pre and post gaming(getting drunk) and on the non game nights it is an empty waste land. The restaurants and bars depended on the the game nights are low quality places and do not draw people to the area.
For the life of me why would Alexandria want to tie up this much land and money with Amazon supposedly driving growth in the area. Maybe it would make sense out in Loudon country, Fredericksburg or Richmond but not Alexandria. You will just end up with what you have now in DC.
What is Alexandria besides a bedroom community (run-down at that) for the District and a bunch of offices for people who support the real work being done across the river? There’s no way they can pull this off and would be better off knowing their limits and not embarrassing themselves.
If this is true, explain why townhouses in Potomac Yard sell for over $1m and SFH in Del Ray regularly go for over $1.3m.
People in DC still haven't caught on that DC is in decline and things are moving elsewhere. Eventually they will tire of fighting off 3 muggers on their way to meet their fashionable friends at another DC chain restaurant and will make the arduous journey down the yellow line.
The only people in the region going to Alexandria (the cultural mecca that it is, lol) are going there to catch flights out of National. It’s a dreary, classless, bore of a place.
Uhhh, National is in Arlington, bro.
