This thread has gone on for so long and i never got it -- what exactly is the subject of "Lax culture from an insider"? A lazy teacher? A disappointed parent? A student who works harder than their peers? what?

Depending on the grade, some Club Blue teams are better than those two teams. Same with Bethesda.

Also, why would you limit yourself to only Montgomery County teams? For example, Blackwolf, Madlax Orange and VLC are all much better than either NL or Madlax Maryland and it's not like you would be driving to Oregon.

Kids leave Bethesda travel in 7th and 8th grade to establish a position on a team for HS.
