You can also analyze any crime to death and find crazy "someone else did it" scenarios. "Oh they photoshopped the video!"

I agree to a point, but given the case is unsolved, it is clearly a bridge too far for some to say "There was an accident. The parents, who appeared at least sane and somewhat normal until now, wanted to protect their child so in doing so decided to stage a really bizarre and brutal kidnapping/sexual assault/murder and let their 6 year old lie dead on a basement floor for hours while this played out."

Possible? Of course. But not sure it falls under "simplest scenario" either.

The Ramseys had everything going for them. They were naive about home security and overly trusting of people around them. There doesn't seem to be any evidence of mental illness or previous bizarre behavior from the parents. It seems quite a leap to think they'd concoct what happened, when they had plenty of money for therapists and lawyers to get Burke off the hook, especially at age 9. It seems farfetched to me to think that the family did this.

To the above list, I'd also add the Ninja attack on another six year old in the area that happened just a few months later. The BPD never thought the two were linked. The BPD dropped the ball in so many ways, why should we trust their thinking?

How does Occam's razor apply here? Which is the simplest scenario?

I know that not everyone buys the intruder story. I'm still unsure whether it was Burke/accident/cover up vs. intruder. I didn't realize until watching the TLC special what a damn bunch of "deplorables" were living in that town at the time.

Gary Olivia - living 10 houses away in the homeless shelter/church - and his obsession with JB. The poem he wrote about her, and that weird shrine to her? Plus the stun gun. Crazy red flags.

And the the Helgeth guy who lived at the junkyard? He had the Hi-tech boots (which we know were found on the scene yet no one in the household owned Hi-tech boots), he was killed in a "suicide" that was clearly a staged homicide, and he was expecting a payout of 50-60K (the bonus split with a partner) at Christmas that "fell through." And he had been caught in bed with his girlfriend's under-age child and said he could not be trusted around her. OMG it just keeps getting worse.

Not to mention Santa Bill and the "secret" he was going to treat JB to after Christmas. As the investigator said last night in the special, "What was that about?"

The Ramsey's did have some boundary issues clearly. They seemed to let anyone and everyone in. And the crime scene was so botched - it is meaningless to say there weren't that many signs of an intruder because the crime scene was compromised, friends were allowed to clean the place, people were coming through, the dad moved the body and cradled it (which seems a natural move when you are in shock and mourning, assuming he didn't know it was there which obviously we don't know). The Boulder police said last night in the special, they were understaffed and the two homicide detectives when to meet with the FBI during the morning when they were still investigating the kidnapping, and the detective let in charge was the only police authority in the house, and she had no experience with kidnapping or homicide, and clearly no control of the situation.

That said the ransom note...so weird. I know it points to Patsy. But I grew up in a wealthy community in the south. I know a lot of Patsy's. They don't watch Ransom and quote lines from Speed. I also feel like after the dinner party, she could have taken a pill and conked out. I'm wondering if the Ramsey's just slept through an intruder. Patsy liked her pills, that was clear. I could see her saying, Christmas is over and mama gonna sleep. We will deal with bed-wetting tomorrow morning. I'm out.

I mean seriously. At first JR said he gave his keys to a few people. Then he started telling investigators he gave his house keys to everyone. He did the same with suspects--named anyone and everyone. He also brought up a mysterious van many months after the murder. (I heard they use those videos at the FBI to show new agents what lying looks like.) There is only one reason the cops focused so intently on the Ramseys: it was obvious to them because of all the lies they were telling.

Yeah in the CBS doc a former friend of Patsy's said she knew the mayor and Patsy asked her if she would put in a request with the mayor for protection for the Ramseys. The mayor scoffed and said "There is no need for them to have any protection."

I fully believe it was Burke and it was accidental but the Ramseys FLIPPED and rather than call police/ambulance and try to revive JB or just come clean, they panicked and covered it up. They very clearly were invested in maintaining the picture perfect family persona and admitting that one child had severe mental disturbances to the point that he accidentally killed a sibling would not only make the child look bad and possibly ruin his life, it would theirs as well. I think they were partly motivated by protecting Burke but mostly motivated by protecting the family image. They just couldn't be the kind of people who had a kid so messed up he would accidentally kill another one. Way too much would have come to light about Burke and his issues and how the Ramseys had (or had not) handled them.
I don't see the Ramsey parents doing it, and it's obvious it wasn't an intruder.

I don't think that anyone has said that Burke intentionally killed his sister. But Burke killing JonBenet UNintentionally and the parents covering up seems the most likely scenario.

Everyone who has seen him interviewed and his interviews as a kid can see that he's off in some way. You may be right that he's not guilty of killing his sister (doubtful but you could be) but you're stretching it to act like he's not clearly functioning on some very different level than typical people.

Pp is referring to the conclusion that this was an accidental death as CBS concluded. They didn't reference his dr Phil interview but his childhood interviews with psychologists.

This was to keep Burke from being investigated. It is difficult to have medical records sealed. Courts can deny requests to do so and can release them etc...

the one thing that gets me is - the note looks like it was written by a woman. the handwriting looks feminine and the language seems feminine.

So, I think Patsy wrote the ransom note.

The rest of it - I cannot figure out.

I doubt any of the family members harmed JonBenet but I can't figure out why Patsy wrote the note.
