Best team is unquestionably Madlax. Not sure how to answer the second part. Not a Madlax parent here, but am amazed he still has a rapport with college coaches but clearly he does. I guess the college coaches aren't getting stuck on moral hazards like Cabell Maddox these days. Nonetheless, they have great team and great players who have earned the credit.

In terms on on-field success, the Madlax 2019 had a very good summer. College coaches can't stand the Madlax owner, but like college coaches of any sport, they'll recruit kids that they want.

Blackwolf and VLC also have very good teams at that age. You shouldn't base a decision on an Internet post. Go to tryouts and see where your son would benefit the most. Sometimes it's playing with the best team possible. Sometimes it's finding where your son will get the most playing time.

Agree that at most --maybe all -- age groups Madlax seems to have strongest teams. In my opinion Maddox is a non-factor as far as recruiting. He relays messages. Coaches will deal with anyone in order to get commitment from a player they want. There are some well-respected high school coaches in the area that might be able to open some doors.

Funny to hear any of these teams described as "feeders" for anything. Maybe there are just kids playing on these teams -- maybe its just that simple. Maybe the kids are just doing what they like and the adult posting here are nuts. Just a thought.

In our experience, the head of our son's club made some suggestions about private schools and gave our son's name to a few private school coaches but ultimately our decision had nothing to do with his suggestions. I am guessing that is how it typically works.

Madlax and VLC are feeders to local psych wards for the parents who post on DCUM.

Most of the kids at the 2019 tryout were Landon or heights kids. Not sure there were any oublic kids. Would agree about Bethesda.

It depends a little bit on the grade. But it's about $3500 for the year, which doesn't include the winter indoor season. It's definitely the most expensive. Most other clubs are in the $2000-$2500 range.

1. NL tried to build around the Landon coaches, but it failed. We'll see if they can do it with The Heights, whose base is much smaller.

2. NL has never had strong HS teams and is just trying to build around a freshman team.

3. Performance isn't that great, but they have more numbers. They could get there eventually.

4. CB is failing and many MOCO families are avoiding Madlax (their Madlax MD tryouts have been sparsely attended).

5. Bethesda has some good teams, but there is no HS program.

CB is all about Mater Dei kids who will go to Prep. If your son is not planning on going to Prep, don't play for CB. The coaches know where kids are going, and they won't care about your son if he's not a Prep kid.

Where do all the Mater Dei kids who end up at Gonzaga play then? Prep is a sinking ship in terms of lax and Gonzaga is now dominant.

The political sideshows with these clubs being feeders for some prep school or being favored to a town, etc. Just exhausting. Where can I pay $800 or whatever just for my kid to play lacrosse dammit? He's in 5th grade!!! We don't care if he is on some fast track or not. Freedom sounded good, now it is gone. Breakout sounded like that and now gone too. Where else? No NextLevel suggestions please. I don't care about getting more connected to Landon or Bullis for school eventually. Don't care about that. Suggestions?

Breakout was great for that niche. Even thought they've merged with Bethesda. my understanding is that a lot of their coaches will be moving to Bethesda as well. That means folks who believe in teaching the basics and finer points of the game rather than win at all costs. Bethesda will still, I believe, have a house league and that may be a good spot for you to start. Good luck.
