case link was posted earlier in thread, but in general to search DC cases, go to DC court website and put in person's name -- "shipley, Kirkland"
I used that link. I put in Shipley and Kirkland but also had to enter a company name.

Certain MCEA would fight it - but again they put their ‘members’ ahead of students nearly every day. (Eg COVID response). Why do we allow unions to dominate our kids again?

Is any country or city or county doing better at monitoring teachers?
We should also lobby for harsher punishments and no statue of limitations for sexual abuse in our county and state.

These predators don't do this just once and get caught there are probably many out there including other former students at many schools who were victims and I hope they speak up to clear out the coaches who did this exact thing many years ago and perhaps still do.
Shipley was an MCPS teacher at Whitman as well as being a Whitman crew coach. So, MCPS hired him, and MCPS did a background check.
but probably not the crew club so they are liable not mcps who did one.
Anonymous wrote:I posted recently in the soccer thread about a well known soccer coach who had accusations and I was really concerned how many people came to his defense.
All the signs were there, grooming, ice cream after practice, private traying and none of the parents thought is was odd and when this happened many defended him saying he would eve go out to do things with their kids.
Seriously? Parents need to get their head out of the sand and take these classes about grooming.
Let's not forget about the NCAP found Rick Curl who had a relationship with a swimmer and the parents allowed it as long as she was a top swimmer. https://swimswam.com/sexual-abuser-swim-coach-rick-curl-released-from-prison-early/

My daughter is only in MS, but is a serious sports nut. I realize these scenarios can happen with teachers, but I feel like there are fewer/more easily crossed boundaries with coaching and other extracurricular activities.
(Also, how can any parent be unaware of grooming in this day and age? Blown away by PPs who seem surprised by this.)
I do not think many sex abuse programs include grooming as an aspect -- it's just "no one should touch your privates". I also don't think that many sex abuse programs caution about other kinds of touches -- hugs, back rubs, leg muscle rubs, brushes of arm or face/hair. These are not considered "private parts" but touching these areas is often a way of breaking boundaries and determining which victims will push back and which will not.
Also, remember until the "me too" movement, the idea that men should never touch women anywhere without their prior explicit verbal consent wasn't really a thing. TBH, it's still not really a thing in men over 25.
