But hey, parents shouldn’t be able to protect their kids for two months until there’s a vaccine.

You can homeschool. I don’t understand why you have no agency here. You could also do Friendship.

they are selfish and want everyone to revolve around them.

Actually I think the selfishness is people who are sticking their fingers in their ears and yelling LA LA LA in the face of clearly changed circumstances and a serious increased threat to children because they want free childcare.

Ah a “free childcare” person. I love how people claiming a high ground employ this sexist, racist, and classist trope with such constancy.

An MD"s thread specifically on delta in children:

How is Delta doing in DC? Is Childrens filled? No? Then what’s the relevance?

Stop trying to ruin school for everyone else.

what’s “clearly changed”? kids were in school in the DMV from feb on and have been in camp all summer. posting anecdotes from other states tells me nothing except that there is a hard core of covid hysterics who a) want to amplify all fears and b) want the school system to prioritize them. You can homeschool or fo an online charter. you do not have the right to close school for everyone else.

I agree, it's horrifying.
Verbal health screens.

And 17,000 students in person this summer with no asymptomatic testing.

the best research on kids and “long covid” indicates it’s not a concern. certainly not to close schools.
